Guest speakers for the evening will be Const. Mary Anne Byrne and Det. Const. Mike Johnson from the Lindsay O.P.P. Everyone is welcome to attend this free in- formation seminar. The seminar will provide valuable in- sight into the different types of drugs available in the area, how to detect drug use in your child, what drugs and drug paraphernalia look like and the effects of drug use on the boy. There will be a video presentation, a question period and various handouts re- garding drug and alcohol use will be avail- able. Nestleton WI has education day On Friday, April 21 the Nestleton branch of the Women's Institute hosted Durham District ladies for an education day. Regis- tration was from 9 a.m to 9:30 a.m. It proved to be a most in- teresting and worthwhile day as our speaker in the morning was Kathleen Pe- tre from Analda Nurser- ies, who spoke on arrang- ing our gardens, to acquire the most continuous color during the summer and had a series of slides to il- lustrate her point. We thanked Kathleen by pre- senting a jar of maple syr- up by Jean Adams. Many had brought cuttings, roots and bulbs suitable for planting now, and we had a mini plant sale. We had time in the morning for a sing-song and sang some institute songs, then several from the "Canada Sings" book. This proved popular as the ladies kept requesting more songs which were ac- companied on the piano by Shirley Brown and an- nounced by Dora Martyn. As we had all brought a bag lunch, we had an hour of visiting, with the host group responsible for the tea and coffee. In the afternoon, we welcomed Doctor Kathlyn Hock from Bowmanville who spoke to us on keep- ing fit through diet and nutrition, and applying natural therapies for ar- thritis, psoriosis, digestive disorders, blood pressure, cholesterol and weight management. She told us the different foods to avoid for specific problems and stressed cod liver oil or flax oil for many ailments. She was asked many ques- tions and had practical an- swers for all, a very infor- mative address. She was also thanked by Barbara Kaptyn and pre- sented with a jar of maple syrup. Comments heard after the gathering were enthu- siastic and pleased with the day and keep these ed- ucation days coming!
