"I feel I can do the best Job. I relate well to others and will hear their con- cerns," hesaid. Although this is Mr. Knopp's first stab at poli- tics, he thought about en- tering the race other years. But, time con- straints and the fact that Ward 2 already had good representation kept him off the ballot, he said. KNOPP He describes Ward 2 as a most diverse ward to represent as it includes both residential neighbor- hoods and the downtown core. "It is a commercial and residential base and we have to ensure the prop- sperity of both. They must co-exist," he said. Mr. Knopp wants to bring a "fresh, new vision to council." Whatever the issue he said council must listen to those directly affected and every decision must be in the best interest of the en- tire community. A part of Scugog's ap- peal that Mr. Knopp wants to see encouraged is tourism. "We are a bedroom com- munity. It is what we are. We have to encourage it and bring people here for economic benefit," he said. Mr. Knopp has been very active in the commu- nity serving as president of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association of North Durham and the Scugog Chamber of Com- merce. He was a member of the Town Hall commit- tee, a Beaver leader and member of the Boy Scouts executive and the co- founder of the Ice Palace. Police believe the break-in occurred sometime overnight last Tuesday (April 26), when someone broke into a tool box in a local man's truck. They then proceeded to his garage, where they stole a large number of tools, including a compressor and a large number of power tools, police said.
