Four Port Perry junior golfers had an excellent outing, bringing many tro- phies home for their moth- ers on Mother's Day. The rain storms broke just long enough to let two Cherry Down's golfers come in first and second in the 15 and older group. Ed Maunders placed first witha 71 and Chris Jamie- son second with a 77. Sunnybrae golfer Law- rence Cook came first in the 13 and 14-year-old group, shooting an 81. His younger brother Nathan Cook, shooting out of Sun- nybrae, won the under 13- year-old group, with a bh S- Siksay & Fraser Law (03 BF iY Il Real Estate, Corporate & Commercial Law, Municipal & Development Law, Wills & Estates Branch Office - Port Perry 204 Casimir Street, Port Perry Phone: (905) 985-4141 Fax: (905) 985-4598 Main Office - Whitby 618 Athol Street, Whitby Phone: (905) 666-4772 Fax: (905) 666-3233 For Monthly Income Mortgage-Backed Securities ROBERT J. Angels meet Angels The two Scugog Angels ball teams will meet in a doubleheader at the north diamond on Sunday. It will be a pitcher's duel be- tween the local teams as both have four pitchers. The Angels were rained out this past week. The an- nual Scugog Angels slo- pitch tournament will be held this holiday weekend (May 19, 20, 21) at the lakefront diamonds. Peterborough went up 2-0 in the first as our squad was a little nervous. We replied in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1. In the fourth, the Peterbo- rough team got an un- earned run and this would ensure their 3-1 victory. The Legion squad left the bases loaded in the second and stranded two more runners at third as our team kept fighting back. Our offence was led by Jeff Kane (who scored our lone run) with a single and two walks. Our other hits were by Mike Koury and Tim Jones. Adam Lamb earned two walks and had a stolen base. Cory McQuade and Devon How- sam also earned free pass- es to first. David Akerma- nis and Matt Fraser both showed heads-up defen- sive coverage in their first rep league game start. Luke Pilkey looked confi- dent at third base and vet- eran Mike Wiseman was Tennis Club fun tourney Port Perry Tennis Club held the first of its season- al "Fun Day Tourna- ments" on Saturday, May 13. Instituted as a "meet and greet" time, long time members are always pleased to see new mem- bers airing their talents and taking advantage of this open day. Everyone enjoyed the perfect tennis weather and the usual pleasant comraderie. Round robin foursomes rotated on the courts and among themselves and their individual scores were tallied. Winners: Women: first - Charlotte Santella; second tied: Marjory Stewart- Medford and Donna Ho- ward. Men - first - Fred Jewell, second Andrew McMillen (a junior mem- ber). Thanks to Peg MoKel- vey and Ann Powell for their organizational and singing skills. It will be an exhibition game between Cartwright Express and the Broad- land Farms Midget teams. The publicis invited to see our favorite mayor throw out the first pitch and watch the fastest pitchers in Scugog battle it out. Big Matt Skerratt made a nifty throw to third base to shock a runner there when Peterborough were at- tempting a double steal. Tim Jones was on the rubber for the Legion and he scattered just three hits, four walks, while striking our 11 batters. Not a bad beginning for the squad which hasn't really had time for work on batting and team tac- tics in practice yet. Trevor Doan and Alex Mitchell have agreed to be subs for the team this year thus far. The team needs another pitcher or two for the bullpen so let us know if you were born in 1983 or 1984 and would like to try out. Next home game for the Legionnaires will be Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the South Dia- mond on Water St. against Newmarket. Come on out and cheer for us! MoJack action The Peewee Modacks boys fastball team started their '95 season with an exhibition game against Oshawa Shamrocks on May 2. Chris Jones started out the year in fine form as he struck out six batters in two innings pitched while allowing three walks and no hits. Mark Richardson took to the mound for the middle two innings and allowed three hits and two walks while striking out one batter. Mark showed great defensive prowess as he had three comebackers to the mound for three outs. Good reflexes Mark. Ryan McBride took over pitching duties for the last two innings. Kyan is new to rep ball and first game jit- ters allowed him to give up five walks but he only al- lowed two hits and struck out two. He also had a couple of comebackers that he had to handle. Mike Versage led the boys at the plate with a single and a triple. Jeff Ashton picked up three RBIs as he hit his first homer of the season over the right field- er's head. Ryan McBride picked up his first single of the season. Darryl Dalton and Chris Monsma showed great patience at the plate and picked up a walk each. Aaron Lycett was in fine mid season form on the bases as he picked up a stolen base. Although the score was 9-7 for Oshawa the team looked good for this early in the season with only a few minor things to be worked on. The team has three new players besides Ryan this year and the coaches and players would like to wel- come Matt Sturgess, Nick Isaacs and Pete McKitte- rick as well as their parents to the team. The first game of the York-Durham League saw Pe- terborough as our guests. Unfortunately the weather man wasn't very co-operative as the game had to be stopped after three and a half innings. Chris started the game and had a bit of control problems as he gave up four walks. However he only allowed two hits and struck out two. Mark took over for the last two innings and gave up two hits, two walks and struck out two. Singles were the name of the game as Darryl, Ryan McQuade, Jeff, Chris Jones, Mike and Peter all hit one each. Defensive highlight of the game came in the last in- ning when Nick in left field made a long throw to Ryan McQuade at the cut off who in turn threw to Aa- ron Lycett at second. Aaron made a great tagon a slid- ing base runner. Final score 10-5 for the MoJacks. Next home game 13 Tuesday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. against Pickering. WT. pri
