You indicated that you felt that my views on the situation were misin- formed. I have a few fur- ther questions. QUEEN STREET Joanne, Ann & Marty, they put it to the test and managed to perfect a replacement cows in the milking herd." Am I incor- rect in saying that the heifers will be used for re- placements, and the bull calves will be confined for the majority of their lives in the "hutches" until it is time for slaughter? This was not addressed in my letter or in the arti- cle in the Star, but am I also incorrect in saying that farmers also sell their calves to other farmers who produce a product that is known as white veal, and is considered a high quality product? In order to produce this the calfis kept in a crate in a barn which will not al- iow it to turn around, it is deprived of natural light, fed a diet which is defi- cient in iron (often force fed) until itis slaughtered. If I am incorrect in the above statements, I am truly sorry and I would ap- preciate you clearing up my misconceptions. As you do so, if you could also copy the Ontario Humane Society and the University of Guelph - Department of Livestock and Poultry, as they seem to have the same misconceptions that I do. If I have received incor- rect information, hopeful- ly I have done a service, by bringing the misinforma- tion to light and allowing it to be cleared up and the correct facts presented. Sincerely, Brigitte Holmes, Brooklin To the Editor: In response to the letter recently published in your newspaper with specific reference to the Kinsmen Raise the Flag Ceremony, the Kinsmen Club would like to straighten out some misconceptions.
