This retrospective of Maureen For- rester's astonishing career combines art- song, opera, Broadway showtunes, night club and cabaret song-stylings, and some wonderful new special material written by Mr. Warrack. On Sunday, Feb. 22, 1976, the Gala Opening Concert of Town Hall 1873 presented Maureen Forresterin recital. Beginning with her experiences grow- ing up in Montreal through her early successes and finally onto the world stage, Ms. Forrester presents a unique, touching, and often humorous portrait of what it is like in and out of the spotlight. In essence, the evening is her autobiog- raphy put to music. Subscribers can reserve their own seats for this performance and can re- quest additional seats along with their subscription. Students win gold at chess tournament Two local schools finished at the top of their divisions at a chess tournament at Palmerston School recently. Prince Albert Public School sent a team consisting of Pierce Jones, Wil Mount, Greg Hunter, Evan Ashton, Justin Cottrell, Kyle Hlozan, Matt Sherriffs and Jason Cottrell. The team won the gold medal in the Junior B Flight of the event. A team of four from R.H. Cornish, Craig Hutchins, Ian Anderson, Scott Gutteridge and Ricky Maillet, also did well, capturing the > gold medal in the Intermediate Flight C. The Palmerston Chess Tournament was the first ever region-wide event for elementary students in Durham. There were 164 students in attendance from 18 different schools in Durham, including Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, Port Perry and Prince Albert. More than 400 games of chess were played in total with medals being handed out to 132 students. Plaques were presented to A Flight winners and five chess boards were given away | ina a random draw.
