Cemetery custodian Wayne McCully discov- ered one huge stone tipped off its base Friday morning, and four more in the older part of the Prince Albert graveyard Monday morning. Those stones were snapped off at the base and will not be put up again, he said. "They can't replace them," he said. "They're broken off at the bottom. "I'll have to put them (flat) on the ground, because there' no room for us to put them in the cement base." Durham Regional Police were at the ceme- tery Monday morning, but there's little they can do. Vandals struck during the night sometime over the weekend, and left no trace except the damaged stones. "Cemetery property to me is sacred," he said Monday morning while surveying the damage. "What can you say? You just hope it doesn't get to the point we've had on a couple occasions." He said there's little that can be done to beef up security at the Jeffery St. cemetery, which has no gates and is open to the pu blic at all times.
