<A Ur a Fn SIREN PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 13, 1995 - 11 i x - Sak ALE Submitted by Al Leggo, Little Britain More photos from the top of the class Wow! When we at The Star put out the word that we were welcoming submis- sions for an amateur photo contest, we had no idea of the response we would et. 5 So when the deadline arrived at the end of May, we were nothing short of overwhelmed as we stood back and looked at almost 250 photos. People from across our coverage area responded in a huge way to the fun contest, in which we asked you to submit entries in three categories: People, Places and Pets. We got some terrific submissions, and our three judges had a tough time choosing the finalists. But when the process was over, they chose the entry by John Hatherly of Port Perry, whose shot of a diver arcing into the waters off Hawaii at sunset caught their eyes -- and imaginations. Mr. Hatherly will receive a voucher for two nights at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto for winning the contest, and we've printed his photo, along with a number of the other top submissions, in today's paper. : In addition, we'll have all the entries Submitted by Andrew Mulder, Blackstock on display at the Scugog Memorial Library in Port Perry. We hope to have the display up at the end of this week, and will leave it in place for as long as it's convenient for the folks there. So, to everyone who answered our call, and sent in their photos, a big Thank You. The response was so great that we're already looking ahead to next year's contest, and planning for ways to pro- vide more prizes for the really excellent work we will receive. We'd like you to plan for next year, too, especially if you entered and didn't end up winning. Next time might be your opportunity to win, so keep shoot- ing. See you next year. And in the meantime, don't forget our Calling Canadians contest, which is open to kids aged 6 to 12. We're asking for you to write us a short essay, telling us what you think is great about our country. The prize is a CD of the great new anthem, Calling Canada. See Friday's Weekend Star for more details on the contest, and make sure your entry is in before the June 23 deadline. Adhd Ade Bt Bt BE WB BE Sd Bd ab Sls Sl fa Sk .
