6 - TUESDAY, JUNE 13, 1995 FARM & COUNTRY LIFE THE PORT PERRY STAR Enjoying what comes naturally...fresh Ontario fruits and strawberries Gathering basketfulls of fresh Ontario fruit is fast becoming a family tradition - and for good reason. Ontario grown strawberries are juicy, sweet and plentiful right now. Gathering the sun-ripened good- ness of our first summer fruit can help spirits and taste buds soar. Here are a few "picking pointers" to make your out- ing the best ever. * Always call your favorite berry farm first to be sure they are open or call the Berry Hotline at 1-800- 263-3262. * On very hot days, try to go out first thing in the morning. * Check to see if picking containers are available or if you should take your own. * Pick only fully-ripe fruit and leave some stem attached as this will keep your berries fresh longer. © Once home, refrigerate the berries as soon as pos- sible in a single layer. f° Don't wash or hull the fruit until just before serv- ing or using. ry A; 19 ARE. 2,00 JORDAN ELECTRIC MOTOR SERVICE 4 Durham St. E., Lindsay Phone: (705) 324-9427 Fax: (705) 324-9840 | DRAINAGE INC. e Systems planning e Land cleaning °Root raking e Land levelling * Grassed waterways ¢ Excavating e Laser controlled installation L.].C.O.
