A la hr aa Under 9 soccer results - Moore Lawn Care Mosquitoes vs Pickering Red Sox The Moore Mosquitoes met the Pickering Red Sox at Brougham ball yard in their first meeting of the year. The boys were fired up and ready to play. Scott Evans drew the starting pitching assignment and looked real sharp in the starting role. : Port Perry bats were silent in the first inning so the team took to the field a little unnerved. 'The first two Pickering batters were retired quickly on sharply hit ground balls to Jordan Froats at short- stop. Then with Pickering runners on second and third, Scott gunned a third strike call past a surprised Pickering batter to retire the side. In the second, Pierce Jones started the hitting and stole second. For a minute it looked like Port might jump into the lead but solid Pickering defence again held Port Perry scoreless. Pickering threatened to score again in the second but the inning ended on a great running catch by Michael Thompson to leave the game at a scoreless tie. The third inning was much the same as the first two as Port Perry batters couldn't solve the strong pitching for Pickering. Frustrated, the Port Perry team had a momentary lapse in the bottom of the third and were rocked for six runs before they could retire the side. The fifth inning looked promising as Pierce Jones connected again for a leadoff single. A good sacrifice by Stuart Cochrane moved him to second. However, the inning was closed down when the Pickering third baseman made a diving stop on a hard hit shot by Der- ek Bond and threw Derek out at first by half a step. Jason Behling came in to pitch for Port Perry in the bottom of the fifth and shut down the surging Red Sox. To start the sixth, Kane Van Aston hit a towering single to right field and immediately stole second to get into scoring position. Next pitch and the speedy Van Aston was standing on third. Jason Behling sin- gled to bring in the first Port Perry run, stole second and was driven in on a hard hit single by Jordan Froats, Jordan stole second and was driven home on a long single by Michael Thompson. Scott Evans fol- lowed with another single but a strong throw from the outfield by Pickering all the way to home edged the Port bid for the third run. That proved to be it for Port as the Red Sox settled down and retired the side. Pickering bats came alive again in the bottom of the sixth. After four consecutive singles, Michael took a hard chopper in the chest and after knocking it down threw out the runner. He shook it off and continued to play. Ryan Hnatko finished the Pickering rally with a fine one handed catch in left field. Pickering relievers baffled Port Perry in the top of the seventh with a three up three down inning to end the game. The final score of 13 to 2 for Pickering didn't reflect the close play for the majority of the game. The Moore Lawn Care Mosquitoes are getting stronger every game and are going to be a tough team to beat by the end of the season. Come on out to see some really entertaining hardball! These mosquito aged teams (nine to 11 year olds), took to the diamond at the fair- grounds. The Moore team started strong defensively holdin | the visitors scoreless in the top of the first inning. Of- fensively, pitcher Mike Thompson helped his own cause with a double to start the home half of the first inning. This was followed by a walk to Scott Evans and a Pierce Jones sacrifice bunt. Jordan Froats then singled to cash in two runs and eventually came home on a passed ball to give Port (Port Perry that is) a three run lead at the end of the first. The Moore Lawn Care team continued to build on their early success to polish off Port Hope by a final score of 11 to 5. Other key hits for Port Perry were supplied by Jeremy Stephenson, Ryan Hnatko who started the fifth inning with two hard hit balls. Both eventually came around to score, the last two runs for the home team.
