The team was on the road to Aurora on June 13 and the outcome was a 13-3 Legion victory. None of the Aurora runs were earned in this one. Our infield played solidly in recording 11 fielding outs. Tim Jones pitched the 'W' with a three hitter, one walk and 5 Ks. Our offense was led by Mike Wise- man - three hits and one walk, Cory McQuade, Matt Skerratt and Tim all had two hits. Matt Fraser got his first career double! Mike Koury singled and had a sacrifice while Adam Lamb also singled. Mike LeFort earned three walks. Devon Howsam scored during our big fourth inning rally. On June 15, our Legionnaires were at home to the Willowdale Grizzlies and avenged n earlier loss to them by notch- ing a well earned 12-1 victory. This was our first "streak" of the season and it felt good. At St. Catharine's the team pulled the season. In this game another season first was our 6-4-3 double play. in this one as well as improved defen- sive composure when Willowdale a timely strikeout). Tim earned the win with a three hit- ter, four walks and 12 strikeouts and showed grit with runners in scoring po- sition. On June 18, the Legionnaires trav- elled to play their nemesis Bramalea team. Despite being shorthanded the team was rewarded for their drive by a 3-1 victory. This rare win over a Bra- malea team was thanks to timely of- fense and defense though we are still generous to our opponents in leaving runners in scoring position too often. Matt Skerratt had a triple, single and two stolen bases plus a tagout at home from his catcher's position. Mike Wise- man also had two hits. Tim had a single to go with two walks and a stolen base while Jeff contributed a key first inning single. Our early first inning 2-0 Port lead gave our squad confidence to go out and battle their hosts. Tim pitched confidently with his de- fense playing "heads up" behind him and also made a tagout at home after Matt's transfer of a passed ball. He end- ed with a career high 15 strikeouts (in- cluding the side in the last inning), one walk, six hits. Our boys were jubilant in their unexpected win and this was the emotional highlight of the season thus far for the team. Our cheering captains "Lambo" and "Crockett" are learning how to get the team adrenalin going from the bench. Our second year "veteran" players are showingimproved leadership as the Le- gionnaires are evolving a "team" chem- istry. Come on out and lend your support to the hard-working team in their next York-Durham League home game on Thursday, June 22 at the Water St. south diamond vs. King City.
