"Time Warp," which was named as the 1993 Jazz Report Acoustic Jazz Group of the Year, is a four piece group which was formed in 1979 by bassist Al Henderson and drum- mer Barry Elmes. The group is rounded out by tenor/soprano saxophone player Mike Murley and trumpet/flugelhorn player Kevin Turcotte. Almost all of "Time Warp's" repertoire is com- posed by Al Henderson and Barry Elmes. One of the highlights of Satur- day's concert was a high energy performance of their new tribute to Duke Ellington entitled "Elling- tonia." Also featured were old standards such as "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," and the rousing fi- nale, "Hymn to Coleman Hawkins." The small but appreciative audience was enthusiastic to say the very least. The next concert in the Town Hall series is "Caba- ret Divas," featuring three of Canada's foremost mu- sical theatre profession- Time Warp starts summer season als. The performance will feature Kathy Michael McGlynn, who has most recently been seen as the Witch in the Toronto pro- duction of "Into the Woods," Judith Lander, who starred in the original Toronto cast of "Jacques Brel," and Beth Anne Cole, who has headed the bill for many seasons at the Shaw Festival. Student wins award From Page 1 "I've done a lot, and it's nice to be recognized," 'said Amy, who's complet- ing her final exams now and plans to attend uni- versity in pursuit of a teaching career next fall. Appropriately, many of her activities involve working with kids. She has been a Sunday school teacher at Port Perry United Church for the past five years, and tutors elementary school chil- dren in French and math.
