"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 27, 1995 - B3 Village pays tribute to country's birthday Caesarea Saturday night was our great salute to Canada's birthday here in our vil- lage. The weather was fine this year and thanks to other fathers who helped with the races, etc., the kids all went home happy. Iam sure they will remem- ber our birthday party 1995 for many years to come. I guess the best one was the adult wheel bar- row race. Part way through the fire works we stopped and I made an an- nouncement, then we all stood as Joan Pearse led us in singing O Canada. The kids put all they had into it and I was surprised to see all ages motionless as it was sung except for two youngsters around five or six and I'm sure they will know how to act in the future. I am thankful to the fire fighters for their donation and letting off the fire- works, Pauline of Sunny- side Market for throwing in some 27 pieces of fire- works which were left over from her Victoria Day sale. Thanks to Dave Diet- lein, Don Putsey, Gord Johnson, Muriel Selby, Ei- leen Putsey, Winston and the two lads, John and Steven for their help. I have no doubt forgot some- one but thanks to you all. After loading up at the hall and unloading here at the house I sat back with a cold pop and began to think how lucky we all are in having the likes 6f these kids who put their su- preme effort into the eve- ning. I thought of my sec- ond cousin, little Billy in Chicago who was born with physical and mental problems. He has never "It pays to advertise... Advertise where it pays..." SF Rh 282% 7 4 ap LY ap i Was 2 been able to walk, or use his right hand, can't speak but can hear. He lived at home until he was fifteen and then was too big for his little mother to help him. He is now 40 and has lived in a nursing home all these years. The father is a well-paid director of a corporation and the mem- bers of the family pay Billy a visit every second day. Then I see other people tearing around in their cars at top speed with their lights off and going through stop signs and so on. It makes me wonder! This past week I saw a picture in one of the pa- pers with Durham police officer Sam Fox with two young cyclists. I met Sam for the first time at an Op- timist Dinner and meeting which we were both invit- ed to. Later I saw him at our annual Firefighters - Police ball game. This year I tried to tail Sam for about three weeks re: the Police Association ball team. One day one office staff employee said he starts at eight but I was in at 7:40, and he'd already left. Another time he was in Ottawa with a group of teenage safety guards. An- other day he was out at a group meeting the night before and wouldn't be in until noon. I think we should pay a special trib- ute to a devoted officer who spends so much time with our youth, Durham Police Officer Sam Fox.
