There's been little or no rain in fougog since a storm and accompanying tornado swept through the area a couple of weeks ago. And while it will be a concern if the dry spell continues unabated, nobody's panicking yet, said Joel Bagg, agricultural representative at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food (OMAF) in Port Perry. "It's not that unusual to go two weeks without rain, but it could turn around," he said Friday. "It's so vari- able." He said crops are not yet showing signs of drought stress, and a good dousing or two over the next few days could help out enormously. Temperatures early last week soared toward the 40's with the humidex fig- ured in, making the hay mow about the last place anybody would want to be. But the quality of the hay, and great weather to bring it in, have made for a good season, said Mr. Bagg.
