Hospital staff, volunteers and directors reflected on the past year and the com- letion of the Stephen B. oman Wing at the Hospital's annual meeting held last week. Several special events were held throughout the year including the Nurses first ever reunion, a Masquerade Gala, and a hockey game between hos- pital staff and the ModJacks. Last year also saw the launching of the Hospital's new history book "Stitches in Time," for which author Gwenyth Thompson was presented with a gift recog- nizing her efforts. In the last fiscal year 12,480 emergencies were treated at the hospital, down slightly from 12,924 the year previous. The number of patient days at the hospital was 11,107, down from 12,505 last year. Acute care atient days were down rom 7.3 days to 6.3 days and the average stay for newborns was also down from 3.5 to 3.4 days. The number of admis- sions at the hospital were up slightly over last year from 1,250 to 1,292, as were the number of day surgeries from 72.4 per cent to 73.2 per cent this year. Scugog Township resi- dents still account for the majority patients at the hospital at 67.83 per cent, but the hospital also servic- es many from outside. Victoria County accounted for 13.92 per cent of patients, Brock for 5.87 per cent, Oshawa for 5.31 per cent, Uxbridge 2.24 per cent and Whitby 1.82 per cent. Other Durham resi- dents accounted for 1.82 per cent of patients and other Ontario and out of province patients account- ed for 1.19 per cent of the admissions. 'All departments gave reports on the past fiscal year at the meeting, detail- ing yearly reports and upcoming plans. Another order of business on the night was the report of the nominating commit- tee which lists Ted Griffen as chair of the committee members. Other committee members include Jerry Taylor, Rodd Foster, Kent Farndale and David Brown. Those appointed to a two-year term as Scugog Council committee mem- bers are Murray Stone, Ted Griffen, Jerry Taylor and Joan Ongley. Annual appointments included Jeanne Sparrow, Hospital Auxiliary President; Valerie LaRocca, Region of Durham; Dr. G. Jones, president of Medical Staff and Dr. Michael Gilmour, Chief of Medical Staff. Norm Phillips told the Port Perry Star last week that word has cir- culated in the animal industry that good qual- ity animals are avail- able from the ranch, and he is getting requests from around the world.
