See story for all the details. CHARLOTTE HALE PHOTO Chill out and catch Borelians' play Air conditioning will help make 'Sinners' a delight The Borelians' summer production of Sinners by Norm Foster promises to be a very cool theatrical experience - thank good- ness! Although it isn't the very first summer produc- tion for the Borelians of Port Perry, it is the first since central air condition- ing was installed in the Town Hall. Regular Port Perry theatre-goers might re- member the first time the Borelians explored the idea of summer theatre in 1991 with their produc- tion of Same Time Next Year by Bernard Slade. Reputed to be the hottest two weeks of the century, the actors had to be sponged down with cold water between the scenes and the audience mem- bers were provided with | hand held fans to help them cope with the incred- ibly oppressive heat. Yes, they wanted them rolling in the aisles, but not because of heat pros- tration! The Borelians' board of directors vowed that until central air conditioning was installed at the Town Hall, summer theatre would have to be post- poned. Sinners, a Canadian farce by Norm Foster, fol- lows hot on the heels of Opening Night, another play by the same author, which drew record crowds in March, won a Thea award for Best Technical Achievement, and re- ceived several other nomi- nations. Sinners is a story of murder and mayhem, lust and - well, lust. Marion Coltman of Whitby plays the outra- geously sexy Monica, a minister's wife with an out-of-control sex drive, and David Lepp plays the eager recipient of her af- fections. Lepp was last seen in Opening Night, playing the role of has- been actor Michael Craig, and he is a veteran of many Herongate Dinner Theatre Productions. Local actor Terry Hod- gins returns to the Port Perry stage as the local chief of police (who-would -be-mayor) and Judith Ed- monson, a veteran of Oshawa Little Theatre and Durham Shoestring Performers, plays his busybody wife. Carol Doughty and Jim Baird round out the cast. "Sinners is a black com- edy. It's very light, it's sexy and it's fun from the word "go!" says director Ed Daigle who received a Best Director award for his last Borelian's production in 1992 - Arsenic and -Old Lace. This spring, he di- rected Of the Fields, Late- ly by David French for Durham Shoestring Per- formers in Oshawa and last fall he performed in OLT's production of The Gin Game. Mr. Daigle has a history with the Borelians that stretches back 20 years. The production reunites him with another long- time Borelian, Dave Ellis, who. is co-producing the show with Jennifer Fletcher. The two have a shelf-full of Thea awards to their credit. So come in from the heat, and enjoy summer theatre at its finest! Sin- ners will be performed July 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 at Town Hall 1873 on Queen Street, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and are available at Jayson Callan Music, and at the door.
