Ontario County Twilight meeting was very well attended Friday evening at the farm of Robt. Jobb and family at Sun- derland. Many from the com- munity enjoyed the beef dinner, program and visiting with friends, in spite of the rain. Brian and Jill Wiersma stopped in at the Evans' for bed and breakfast on their way to Ottawa to visit Jill's brother. Lynn Mecllvride-Evans par- ticipated in the art show at Na- than Philips Square on the weekend. Mildred Evans visited family during the holiday weekend. Congratulations to our Ep- som Grade 6 graduates. We wish them every success as they move on to Grade 7 in Septem- ber. Carl Evans had Sunday dinner with Gramma and Grampa Evans to honor the oc- casion. Virginia Wilson and Kate- lynn and Jamie Bacon attended Crusaders Bible Club Camp last week. David and Barbara Sim- monds and family were partici- pating in the first Simmonds family reunion which was held at the picnic area at Cullen Gar- dens on Saturday. Lorne and Eileen Slute en- joyed a cruise on Sparrow Lake and the show "Anne of Green Gables" at Orillia on Tuesday. Don and Stella Asling, Keith and Faye Ashton, Doris and Tom Armstrong and Howard Gourlie were among the many who were at the home of Don and Elaine Cordingly of Quaker Hill on Sunday to celebrate the 75th birthday of Elaine's moth- er Ollie Barton. PETER HVIDSTEN / PORT PERRY STAR HONORING A GREAT LADY - May Swash celebrated her 90th birthday with friends and relatives Sunday at the Anglican Church in Port Perry. Born in 1905 in northern England she came to Canada with her parents at the age of 8 years. Mrs. Swash, who has four children, moved to Port Perry to live with her daughter Sandra Bramham in 1969. For the past three years she has lived at the nursing home. Mrs. Swash received letters of congratulations from the Prime Minister, Governor General and Mayor Howard Hall (above). Congratulations to Tara-Lyn Puckrin who graduated in June from Sir Sandford Fleming Col- lege in Peterborough with busi- ness administration majoring in marketing. She also received the Bill Johnson memorial award which is presented to an outstanding business adminis- tration marketing graduate. The Seagrave Men's Group held their monthly meeting last Saturday, July 8, 1995. All who attended had a good time with the subject of the day, "Fishing". The topic of the August meeting will be the "Harvest". The meet- ing starts at 8:30 a.m. and fin- ishes at 9:30 a.m. Congratulations to Tara-Lyn Puckrin and Doug Law who were married on Saturday eve- ning on the lawn of her parents home Roy and Marilyn Puckrin. Seagrave Church News The sacrament of the Lord's supper was celebrated on Sun- day at the church service. Rev. David Shepherd's sermon was on "Healing". The choir sang, "pass the word along". Next Sunday the board of stewards will conduct the service. Don't forget coaches...call us with the results of your base- ball, soccer, etc. games this sum- mer and we'll get them in the news. Anna Schalt of Claremont, and the Schalt family of Holland recently visited with Robert and Margaret Couperthwaite. Contact any member of the committee for tickets. Bake/yard sale at Burns Church Ashburn Florence .%431{ 1} The Rev. Karen Hincke was the guest minister at Burns on Sunday and delivered a very in- spiring sermon based on Philip- pians Chapt.4. Rev. Hinche works jn the national office of the Presbyterian Church in To- ronto. Ross Batten is in charge of the service next Sunday, with Rev. Ian Morrison as guest min- ister on July 23. Rev. Smith re- turns from vacation on July 30. The pork barbecue was en- joyed by all who attended on Saturday at the park. The food was delicious, but the weather was extremely cool, which made it so that people didn't linger too long to chat after their meal. A special thanks to the committee for a job well done, and to all those who helped in any way. A community bake and yard sale will be held at Burns Church on Saturday, July 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise funds for the Canadian Wom- en's Lacrosse Team. Donations gratefully accepted. If you enjoy yard and bake sales, plan to drop in. You might just happen to find a real bargain. Visiting with Bernice and Jean Gardner recently were Mr. Dean Wideman and Ralph of Windsor, Verne Wideman and Beth, Oshawa, Durward Wide- man of Pefferlaw, Erma Tripp, Burketon, and Mel and Mary Briscoe.
