The original target date for the project was July 13, but minor problems have set the completion date back a week, according to Craig Clark, of Brian Bar- ton Building Corporation. The ashphalt, windows and sod were to be fin- ished last week, complet- ing all exterior work. The buildingis due to be rented out to its first user group on July 26, accord- ing to the township's Rec- reation Co-ordinator Al Pollock. The project was an in- frastructure program, with funding split among the provincial, federal and municipal governments, with no money coming out of the tax levy. It was an issue during the local elections last fall, when some candidates vowed to scrap the plan if elected. Mayor Howard Hall, a booster of the pro- = REN ject from the outset, stuck to his commitment on the hall and was easily re- elected. The hall itself is located at the south-east corner of the existing arena build- ing on ReacH St. The large banquet hall, with a seat- ing capacity for 450 peo- ple, includes a large lobby area, lounge area, warm- ing kitchen, additional washrooms and a receiv- ing area. It has its own en- trance as well as a link through the arena. The hall is divisible into three rooms through the use of movable partitions. Although the concept was for a banquet hall, it will also be used for badmin- ton and floor hockey as well asline dancing. An official ground- breaking ceremony was held for the new hall on March 30. At that time the Scugog Centre Advisory Board introduced its sub- committee which oversees the promotional and fund- raising aspects as well as the development of Scu- MONTE CARLO You can't miss the large sculptured lions framing the front door of Monte Carlo when you are at the comer of 7A and Water Street. 'Seadoo cops' will soon hit the water in Region Coming soon to a lake near you: Seadoo cops. Officers with Durham Regional Police's marine unit took to the waters of Frenchman's Bay in Pickering aboard personal water craft jet skis in an attempt to crack down on reckless riders, and the force says the program will soon be expanded to include Lake Scugog. The move was prompted by a number of com- plaints about reckless boaters and jet ski riders, police explained in launching the program in Pickering recently. Officers will take to the waters of Frenchman's Bay, enforcing the speed limit of 10 kilometres an hour for jet skis, and will keep an eye on boaters to make sure they're observing all the rules of the waterways, police said. Bombardier Canada has donated to Seadoos to equip the marine unit's patrols. Monte Carlo HAIR FASHION \ Guido & Guido Inc.
