Tournament hype is getting strong as many games are get- ting very competitive and the outcome in doubt until the final inning. "Know The Rules No. 4" - True or False - In Cartwright Minor Ball, it is okay to play in shorts? T-Ball Blackstock Lions 17 Analda Garden Centre 13 The win by the Cubs put them into a first place tie with Anal- da. Myles Romain led the win- ners with two home runs while Kaleb Sprang had a triple. Home runs for Analda were hit by Robbie Gonnerman and Caitlyn Hellingman while the defence was led by Natalie De- jong and Corey Vandewick. Figure Skating Club 18 Superspud17 The win by the Skating Club only left them a half game from the top. Nathan Alpe continued the hot bat with seven RBIs; in- cluding a grand slam home run in the first inning. Also assist- ing the offensive cause were Mi- chael Layton's two hits and Lo- ran Malcom's two runs. Luke Michel led Superspud with two home runs while Col- ten James and Michelle Morri- son scored three runs each and Ryan Lowe and Johnathon Van Oostveen crossed the plate twice. Tykes Wotten's Hammerheads 13 Philp Firebirds 6 In a week two re-scheduled game, the Hammerheads main- tained their hold on first place. Great pitching by Donald Shaw and Patrick Wotten and a tabu- lous game-ending catch by Rina Predergast paved the way to victory. Matt Romain pitched well for the Firebirds while Steven Carmer and Joshua Dunham collected singles. Spring Grove Vaders 4 Baker Auto 0 Shutout pitching perfor- mances by Greg Banks and Joel Michel kept the Vaders in sight of first place. Michel also had a solo home run while only hits were by Cody Coakes and Darc- ee Grove. Collecting hits for the Road- runners were Justin Kennedy, Kyle Sobczak and Robbie Dono- van. Philp Firebirds 6 Hammerheads 6 The Firebirds played their best game of the season shut- ting down Wotten's with two no- run innings. Bryan McNamara made a great unassisted double play with a caught fly ball and force out at first. Other defen- sive stars were Jack Horner at shortstop and James Hobbs at pitching. The offence was led by Jeff Campkin and Alisha Tim- mers. Wotten's defensive stars were Jamie Lee Morton at first and Rina Prendergast at shortstop while Corey Hellingman hit a double. Mites H&M Wright Sox - W Nestleton Country Store -L Win by default. Turner's Green Giants - W Cummings Backhoe - LL No game report. Squirts Swain Seeds Sluggers 16 Mann's Cornhuskers 14 The Sluggers won the second game behind a total team effort. The oftence kicked into high gear as Aaron Warren had a grand slam home run and Joh- nathan Swinerd collected four hits while Terry Damant and Chelsea Mateo had three sin- gles each and Bethany Newman chipped in with a hit. Defensive- ly, Mark Morrison pitched well as did Krystal Bartley and Ter- ry Damant while Jamie Gim- blett played well on defence as well. Mann's game stars were Krystin Bronson with a home run and timely base hits by Ca- sie Shortridge and Brandi Brooks. Cornhuskers14 Antrim House 10 Manns evened their week's play at 1-1 as they edged the struggling Pubsters. Strong tilts on the hill by Chris Goble, Krystin Bronson and Bradley Sutcliffe led the Cornhuskers to their fifth win. Gineen Collins made some great catches in the outfield while Bradley Sutcliffe sparked the offence with a roundtripper. Antrim's offensive stars were Emma Marshall and mite call- up Katie Vanstrien, both col- lecting doubles. Antrim's also used call-up Heather Lee Jones to fill their roster. Martyn Consulting 15 Swain's 13 The Seed people jumped to an early lead but Martyn's fought back for the win. Martyn's offence got A+ ef- forts from Alison Kadowaki, Ce- line Hunter, Michelle Nosewor- thy and Mathew Welts who each had perfect nights at the- plate. Swain's offence was headed by Chelsea Mates' three hits and strong team base stealing Most of week's weather is great for baseball games by Krystal Bartley, Terry Da- mant, Jamie Gimblett and Cor- rina Bauer. Seniors Campbells 27 Don Frew & Son 8 Campbell Electric continued the division dominance, collect- ing 17 extra base hits including six home runs to easily beat the Frew crew. David Bauer led the way hitting for the cycle, includ- ing two home runs. Deryk Campbell had three home runs as well as a triple plus providing some strong pitching. Ryan Whittick had the other home run as part of his five hits. Elisha James collected four hits as well as playing some strong defence at first base. De- fensively Aaron Gimblett, Amanda Drew, Tyler Lucas and Chad Hobbs all played well. The Frew team was held to only 10 hits with April Vanstri- en, call-up Chris Hoskin and Matt Elliott collecting two each. Stephanie Shortridge led Frew's with a strong defensive game while April Vanstrien, Colin Manns and Richard Frew also played well in the field. To fill their roster, Frew's also used call-up Steven Vine. Dr. Workman Hawkeyes 16 Marlin Travel 7 Holly Westall's four runs and two by Ashley Sayer led the Hawkeyes to their fourth win. Defensively Rob Watson, Ryan Prescott and Andrew Marsh all pitched well and held the Trav- ellers to seven runs. Jamie Budge led Marlin's with a grand slam home run while Adrian Oppers had a triple, Jason Price a double and Alex McLaughlin reached base three times. Cartwright Minor Ball Baseball Permanent Pools 10 Asselstine Yamaha Peewees 9 The Cartwright team lost an- other nailbiter as a single brought in the winning run in the bottom of the last inning. Johnathan Wotten struck out five while pitching while Robert Larmer had a strong game at first base. Offensively, Brian Chartrand had a two for four night at the plate. OronolIGA 10 Asselstine Yamaha Peeweesl Once again the locals played perfect hosts as they went down to defeat in a storm-shortened three-inning game. Blake Tan- ner's strong pitching and Craig Joudrey's hot glove led the As- selstine defence while Adam Stapley scampered home with the lone local run. Coaches are reminded to start preparing their individual team awards which will be pre- sented at awards day.
