Chris Jones went the distance giving up 12 hits while striking out six and allowing no walks. At the plate, Darryl Dal- ton picked up two walks while Ryan McQuade got two singles followed by a Chris Jones double and singles to Ryan McBride and Mike Versage. On July 10 the squad travelled to Pickering where they turned it up a notch recording a 14-2 win. Ryan McBride took to the rubber giving up five hits while recording five strikeouts and two walks. Chris Jones went three for five with Reid McTaggart close on his heels with two hits, one a home run. Ad- ditional singles went to McQuade, Nick Isaacs, McBride, Sean Jeffrey, Mark Richardson and Aa- ron Lycett. This Tuesday, July 18 the team starts their OASA zone championshi playoff against Campbell. ford at the south diamond startingat6 p.m. OMBO #1 PY 6 PIECE PIZZA WITH CHEESE & 1 ITEM, 1/2 LB. "of the local racing scene as the Molson Indy celebrates Take one Sunday afternoon at Mosport Speedway, schedule 225 laps of stock car racing action, delay the start two hours because of rain, throw in 28 caution periods, add another hour-long rain delay and what have |. you got? | \ Other than a sore backside, we end- ed up with 200 racing laps, almost an equivalent number of yellow flag circuits, a dandy brawl in the pits and by the end of the day, 113 spectators (ac- tual count)! The ThunderCars were first up on Sunday's schedule with a huge field of 36 cars taking the green flag for the 40 lap feature event. Don Coppins from Oakwood grabbed the early lead from his pole position, but relinquished top spot on lap four to the Mississauga driver, Larry Cox. maintained the lead for eight circuits of Mosport's half mile until his mirrors filled with the hard charging #3 Chevy of Ken Donaldson. With arch-rival Dan Robinson in tow, Donaldson slipped past Cox at the end of the backstraight and into top spot and these three circulated nose to tail until the checkered flag fell 28 laps later. The closest race of the day was staged in the 50 lap Street Stock feature. Oshawa's Derek Henderson started in the middle of the 16 car grid, but by lap 8 was challenging the Motor City's Bob Kish for the lead. These two along with Whitby's Brent Sullivan ran bumper to bumper until lap thirty when the yellow came out, a result of Bob Franks lubing of the track with his blown engine. On the restart Henderson got the better jump and pulled into the lead, heading a train of five cars that roared along in tandem to the checkered flag. Port Perry's Dennis Mallette edged out Glen Fricker for second spot while Kish faded to fourth just ahead of last year's title holder, Andy Warbutton. Alex Jordan claimed the top prize in the Late Model Sportsman race and led 38 of the 60 laps, but the drive of the day was awarded to the runner-up man, Alex Hamilton from Priceville. Hamilton was leading the event when he was tagged from behind by Joe Sefc, sending both cars into a spin in turn four. As a result, both drivers were relegated to the back of the 28 car pack. While Jordan and Tom Walters then battled for the lead, Hamilton began a steady progression through the field until with just six laps remaining, he managed to move into second place. A very determined Jordan claimed the win, a nose ahead of Hamilton with third place man, Kevin O'Hara leading early leader Frank Baudo to the line. Port Perry driver Steve Barron made a shortened appearance at Mosport as his engine expired on Lap 18 and Blackstock's Daryl Leatherdale had his powerplant go sour as well, dropping him out of the top ten. The late model feature race was shortened to 50 laps as a result of an extended rain delay and this proved to be a merciful end to the day's schedule. The race suf- fered through 11 caution periods, in no small part to the cold and damp track, so full marks and glory must go to Uxbridge's Reno Montanari as he took the victor's laur- els. Stu Robinson Jr. claimed a hard earned second place ahead of the Scugog Island Marina sponsored Chevrolet of Rod Sauder. Unfortunately all of the action wasn't confined to the race track. Expect to see some disciplinary action against the idi- otic actions of Port Hope's Darren Gillespie. After elimi- nating top-runner Rob Milwain in a turn two incident, Gillespie was disqualified for Unsportsmanlike Driving, a charge he violently opposed. The disagreement resulted in an all out brawl! behind the pit wall involving Darren and his crew, his brother Doug and his crew, the Milwain Gang and several Mosport officials. Stay tuned for further developments. On a happier note, next weekend marks the highlight its 10th anniversary in Toronto. g2° FAST FREE ALL DAY DELIVERY OMBO #4 20 PIECE PIZZA WITH CHEESE & 1 1 ITEM, 1 LB.
