Lundy, AM.C.T Regional Clerk Gary Herrema Regional Chair LE ITE R S from our readers Thanks for coverage To the Editor: On behalf of kidney patients, their families and thousands of volunteers, I would like to thank the Port Perry Weekend Star and The Port Perry Star for its support in publicizing our annual March Drive Campaign. Thanks to the generosity of the local community and the tremendous support given by dedicated vol- unteers, we were able to raise approximately $7,000 in the Port Perry and surrounding area. Their efforts coupled with the hard work of thousands of other vol- unteers across our catchment area resulted in raising over $700,000 during March Drive, yet another record breaking campaign for the Central Ontario Branch of The Kidney Foundation of Canada. In addition to supporting ongoing research, patient services and public education programs, such finan- cial successes also make possible the start-up of new initiatives such as the National Organ Donor Task Force. The Task Force has taken a leadership role in addressing the organ donor crisis in Canada, a crisis that not only impacts kidney patients, but the health care system as a whole. Without the support of people such as yourselves we could not help make a difference. Sincerely, Diane Truyens, 1995 March Drive Chair "A cosmic hit that all generations will love. Pal Collins WWOR- TIA ON VIDEOCASS Disability pursuit brings heartache To the Editor: I hope no one has to go through what my husband and I have experienced in the last seven years. My husband had been a hard working farming man all his life. In 1984 he moved on to a company. Unfortunately, he became ill, and had to leave this jobin November of 1992. In 1989, my husband was starting to fail. We had gone from doctor to doctor with little success. One diagnosis to another and then another. We had to make a deci- sion for he could not go on any longer. What do we do? How do we start? Where do we go? How do we financially keep going? Will there be medical help? All questions went through our minds. In 1992 my husband was finished, physically done. We applied for full disa- bility benefits; the rejec- tions, the running around, being discredited. We have three doctors that agreed, my husband is physically finished. At a recent assessment one doctor slashed out all three, and now we are into the fight of our lives. Yours sincerely, Jane Yellowlees, R.R. 1, Uxbridge Sponsors From Page 7 League. As you mentioned, $250 to $400 is a lot of money to have hanging in the closet being eaten up by moths, but nothing compared to the $4,000 laid out to play seven games of ball before being dismissed from the league. Maybe other sponsors should take a good hard look at what they are spon- soring before it happens to them. I didn't know I had to sponsor a team of losers to satisfy a bunch of over 30-year-old wimps who, if they can't win, will take their ball and go home. Maybe a good game of T- ball would be more fitting for them. I had thought about sponsoring a ringette team in the fall, but one thing you can count on now: I'm sorry to say that the sports groups of this community will be able to go ice fishing in hell before I contribute another five cents in sponsorship.
