We met in the show- room and Don Robinson introduced himself as our tour guide. He first showed us the kinds of wood they use such as Pennsylvania Oak and Quebec Pine. We then walked over to watch them glue together pleces of wood. This is called lamination. Next Don took a piece of this laminated wood that was already dry and ran it through the planer. The planer sanded off excess wood in just a minute. The same amount of hand sanding would probably take hours. We were shown all sorts of saws such as table saws, chop saws and jigsaws. Next we went to a lathe. Mr. Robin- son put in a long squared piece of wood, pro- grammed the lathe and the results were remarka- ble...a beautifully turned spool. He showed us a belt sander and a machine for dove tailing which cut slots so that pieces of wood could fit together easily. This 1s used in drawer making. We were ushered into the room where all the finishing takes place. After a look around we went back into the front showroom and Colleen Ar- buckle thanked Mr. Rob- inson. We came away knowing how much more the Knotty Chuckers of Wood still had to learn.
