Durham Red Cross holding car rally fundraiser Aug. 13 The Durham Branch of the Canadian Red Cross Society is holding its first annual car rally on Sun- day, August 13. The rally will begin at 1 p.m. on the grounds of the © CanadianAuto Workers Union Hall on Philip Mur- ray Ave. in Oshawa and will be approximately two hours in length, run on paved roads throughout the countryside within Durham Region. Each car will need a navigator as well as a driv- er - or make it a family af- fair and bring the kids too! You do not need any ex- perience to take part - all directions will be given to you at the start of the ral- ly. To register for the Car Rally, call the Red Cross for your donation sheet - 723-2933. Your completed donation sheet is your en- try form - there is no mini- mum, so whether you col- lect a little or a whole lot of dollars for Red Cross is en- tirely up to you. Red Cross runs a num- ber of community pro- grams in Durham Region including "Meals on Wheels", loan of sickroom equipment, medical equip- ment recycling, tracing and reunion, emergency services, first aid, blood services, and water safety. Although Red Cross is a United Way Agency, due to funding cutbacks, it has become necessary for the Red Cross to raise funds in order to keep the pro- grams and services run- ning. Township will recognize volunteers at ceremony The township will be recognizing its volunteers later this year during the second Tri-Annual Recog- nition Awards Ceremony. The first awards event, held in 1992, was such a success, the township de- cided to hold the ceremony once during each term of council. The ceremony is a way of honoring the many vol- unteers in the community who have made signifi- cant contributions to the growth of the community.
