Group (Smokers Overcoming Smoking) 1s dedicated to helping people at every stage of the quitting process. It has been meeting weekly and has seen over 200 attendees since it first began in Janu- ary 1994. The S.0.S. Group is the most popular component of the Lung Association's comprehensive smoke cessa- tion program, "Three Steps to Smoke Free." The S.0.S. Group, in addition to the other two Lung Asso- ciation smoke cessation programs, has enabled the majority of members to either quit smoking, reduce their cigarette intake significantly, or help people who have already quit to remain smoke free. The Support Group is best known for its motiva- tional strength and the fact that itis led by graduates of the program. The success of the program can be at- tributed to the members' acceptance of individuals at any stage of the quitting process, their support and willingness to share with each other. Members of the S.0.S. Group know that although the road to becoming smoke free is neither easy nor smoothitis possible.
