"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice " Time to think about exhibits for the fair Scugog Islan The sun shone on Danielle Tower and Andrew Slade on Saturday, Aug. 12 for their spe- cial day! Their beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony was held at the home of Jim and Norma Tower, Danielle's parents. Con- gratulations and best wishes are extended to Danielle and Andrew from neighbors and friends of Scugog Island. Don't forget the Port Perry Fair is just around the corner so it is time to think about exhibit- ing. There are junior exhibits, so kids check this out! Scugog Island United Church We enjoyed the perfect weath- er for our outdoor service. Nicole Hamelinck provided the minis- try of music by singing two beautiful and moving solos. Frank is re- membered for his community involvement as a coach of the Seagrave Ladies "Turkey Pow- er" ball team and the founder of the "Birdseye Centre Carvin Club". He was a champion wood carver of birds and decoys and had won many awards for his fine work in this area. PETER HVIDSTEN/PORT PERRY STAR CRAFTY WEEKEND: Large crowds attended the annual Port Perry Craft and Gift show, held Saturday and Sunday at the Scugog arena. Hundreds of people visited the 68 booths to get a look at some of the excellent crafts on sale. Vendors from as far away as Montreal took part in the show, which is mounted by Ron Cosway of Port Perry. All the best to our Mabel August 8 was one of the brightest days of my life when I walked into Mabel Cawker's home to pick up her news. I no-. ticed several planted pots of flowers and asked whether she was having a party? "Yes, in- deed", she replied, "for tomor- row I am going to be 90". Mabel got me into this by asking me for some Caesarea News. We went on together under her heading for about a year and then she decided Caesarea should have it's own heading. During her ill- ness I picked up the news here and there usually at Gwen Mal- colm's home. When back home, she took over the reins again and her and I have that usual half hour or so together Sunday night. Congratulations Mabel, may I live to see you celebrate your 100th year. Mabel's choice say- ing is, "age is not a time of life - it's a state of mind". This past Sunday, people who are interested in golf met at my home and all felt it would be a shame to omit the game from our program. They formed a new committee but decided to suspend it for the year 1995, but will definitely have a great competitve game for 1996. They stressed next spring you must pay up front , not at the door and guarantee to have a rain date in advance. This commit- tee is headed by Don Putsey Caesarea with Gord Johnston, Jason Warner, Reg Renouf and Mike White. Good luck boys, we're counting on you. Our thanks to Bill White and his committee who did an excel- lent job in 1993 and again in 1994. We have spent this week put- ting things of the Regatta away, checking all the receipts and comparing them with last years. The one thing that has the executive annoyed is the theft of one of our brand new volleyballs. It's not a case of be- ing misplaced, it's a case of out- right theft right in the middle of the tournament. This ball is a clearly-marked Spaulding and is colored white with red and blue markings. Anyone who would call himself sportsmind- ed and do a trick like this has a false vocabulary and doesn't know right from wrong. Let's get on with it, this is not being smart. You're leaving yourself open to theft charges. Please leave it at Fran Binns' back ve- randa. Michelle McClain gave me the following story of her neice, Anais Guilloteau. I think it is spectacular for a girl of 15. She passed with such high honors from senior public school, she'll be able to complete high school in three years instead of four. She has travelled alone to Cae- sarea from France. She has been to Niagara Falls, Marine- land, Ontario Place, C.N. Tow- er, Eaton's Centre and locally the Festival Days in Port Perry and our Regatta here. She ar- rived July 13 and leaves for home Aug. 24 (my birthday). She is learning a little English and I'm sure you'll agree it's a great experience for a girl of 15, who says, "It's the greatest holi- day I've ever had". Saying of the Week On the tree of silence hangs it's fruit which is peace. Joke of the Week Have you ever wondered if whoever invented the boome- rang also invented the credit card. We were sorry to hear of the trafficaccident at 6:20 a.m. Sun- day morning just east of Caesar- ea which took the life of Brook McDonald of Sunderland. Our sincere condolences to her fami- ly and friends. SAX os RANI
