PETER HVIDSTEN / PORT PERRY STAR THE WINNERS ARE - A Cannington team won the Lake Scugog Lumber lawn bowling trophy at the Port Perry Lawbowling Club last Saturday with a score of 51 points. Members of the winning team are, George and Norah Tomlinson and Scott Livingstone. Gamblers take a pair as season winds down The Greenbank Gam- blers won a pair of Oshawa City and District League games last week assthey stopped Aurora by a 7-1 score and then de- feated the Oshawa Double "B" Juveniles by an 8-5 count. Mark Goreski and By- ron Baranieski teamed up on the Greenbank mound in Aurora but Baranieski is still nursing a sore shoulder and only tossed three innings. Don Beaton and Ray Kurhan led a 15 hit Gambler offense with three hits apiece with Troy Davey, Chris Burk- holder and Paul Goreski each having a pair of hits. In Greenbank on Thurs- day night Mark Goreski pitched the win over the Oshawa Juveniles as he scattered 11 hits during the game and his team mates belted 12 hits off of Oshawa's John Sharp in an 8-6 final score. The Oshawa team were just back from winning the silver medal in the Ca- nadian Junior Men's Championship in Vancou- ver, B.C. (A fine showing by the Oshawa Club). Brian Till had the hot Greenbank bat in this game as he collected three base hits while Chris Burkholder had a pair of doubles and drove in three Gambler runs. At the N.A.F.A. Tourna- ment in Toronto on the weekend the Gamblers played well, but lost twice at the Kew Beach Park. With Byron Baranieski still on the injured list, Greenbank had recruited Mike Crawford to assist Mark Goreski with the pitching chores. But just prior to the game, Craw-. ford was ruled ineligible to play by the N.A.F.A.'s Jeff Shaw. Shaw claimed that Crawford had played two games with the Waterloo Twins this season and could not play in the N.A.F.A. tournament. This threw the entire pitching load to the Gam-- blers' Mark Goreski and with the exception of one bad inning against the Caledonia Sox he pitched well in both games. Colin Newell led the Gambler batters in the tournament with a three for five effort and a base on balls. Don Beaton hit a mammoth triple into the huge oak tree in left field at Kew Beach but the "no fence" park allowed Caledonia to hold Beaton to a triple. SPORTS will continue in The Weekend Star Greenbank had the po- tential winning runs on base in the last inning, but they died there as the To- ronto Aces eked out a 3-2 decision. This week sees the League Schedule windup with the Gamblers in Oshawa on Tuesday night for a game with Oshawa "Heat" and then wind up the schedule at home on Thursday when the Port Perry Juniors come to Ian- son Park for an 8:15 p.m. game.
