Vol. 129 No. 38 PORT PERRY, ONTARIO - TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 1995 Another credit card theft reported here Bank, post office investigate fraud By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star Officials with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) will undertake an investigation in Port Perry with Canada Post after yet another case of credit card fraud surfaced here last week. CIBC spokesperson Anna Relyea said Friday the bank will work with the local post office in an attempt to find out how two monthly statements sent to a VISA card customer in the Sunderland area went missing, and were never deliv- ered. The report of $1,350 in unau- thorized charges rung up on a card belonging to Jack and Wanda Owen of the Sunderland area last Wednesday (Aug. 9) .. makes three in the area in the past month; two other incidents surfaced two weeks ago. At the time of the initial frauds, bank officials said the two occurring here were coin- cidence; now, however, they're checking the Port Perry area more closely. "It appears to be localized," Ms Relyea said. She added that VISA offi- cials are trying to determine what happened to two monthly statements that should have arrived at thé&"Owens' home this summer. The statements include information that can be used by fraud artists to make purchases on cards. .
