This week I walked along through an empty bank barn on a farm. I looked about in astonish- ment and wondered how they got those large heavy wooden beams up into place. They had no motor- ized cranes, or fork lift trucks in those days. Usu- ally just a group of neigh- bors for their manpower, plus ropes, chains and horses. Not even a chain- saw. In the silence I felt I could hear the voices of the men as they toiled to com- plete their mission. O how farming has changed. In the early days it was loose hay with a large fork and overhead track and pul- leys which took the hay from the wagon to the loft. Then came the baling of hay. You stacked it on the wagon and then in the loft. Now its large rolls of hay quite often left outside with a plastic covering over it. Most farmers have fork lift trucks so conse- quently the hay loft is no longer required. My guess is within 50 years you will not see a bank barn left in Ontario. The maintenance and taxes of the barn far exceeds its use. Both bodies main purpose was to act as a world government and prevent aggression. The League tried to stop it with trade sanctions. The U.N. at its concept said it would have a world police force made up from all members of the organiza- tion. Here is one of the weak points with a num- ber of nations not contrib- uting. With Zogoslov it is not a case of one nation against another but an in- terna war. This week the U.N. took action. My biggest regret is to see the prominent religions of the world whose basic faith 1s to love one another and live in harmony seems to be the platform for the tur- moil. Isn't it time for us all to think and be rational. Joke of the Week After an unprofitable engagement the circus owner called his troup to- gether to make a sad an- nouncement.
