30- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 12, 1995 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" D> PORT PERRY STAR a a R URAL Roots Guest speake Here we are Sept. 11 and another four days, we'll be half way through September! How time flies and weather has been up and down - very cool one day and a bit more like taking a brisk hike another day! Oh! I guess we'll look for- ward to beautiful October- the lovely month when the leaves are turning different colors. A gorgeous time of year! U.C.W. Services Blackstock and Nestleton Pastoral Charge joint U.C.W. Service on Sunday, Sept. 10 - celebrating 33 years. Greeters at the door were Neta Fish and Tallya Moore, and ushers were Barb Byers and Jean Williams. Guest speaker Norma Sobile brought a splendid message speaking on "Journeying" can be happy or sad. Life is a jour- ney of faith. Pack love, respect, kindness, happiness, faith and forgiveness when U.C.W. sees a need they are there. She closed with the "Women's Creed". She was thanked by the U.C.W. presidents, Jan MacKenzie, Regenia Walker, and Shirley Gibson and to all members for support and par- ticipation. The fine service closed with "Go Now in Peace". Organist Karen Yellowlees and both choirs took part. A time of fellowship was enjoyed over lunch after the service in the Sunday School room. Touching Shoulders There's a comforting thought at the close of the day, when I'm weary and lonely and sad. That sort of grips hold of my heart and bids it be merry and glad. It gets in my soul, and drives out the blues, and finally thrills through and through. It 1s just a sweet memory that chants the refrain - I'm glad I touched shoulders with you. Oh, you knew you were brave, did you know you were strong? Did you know there was one leaning hard? Did you know that I waited and listened and prayed? And was cheered by your simplest word. Did you know that I longed for the smile cn your face? For the sound of your voice ringing true? Did you know I grew stronger and better because - I had merely rubbed shoulders with you? | (Requested) [rm Nestleton by Don't forget to drop into our beautiful Scugog Memorial Library and take an interesting book or two home for a plea- surable reading. They have books of interest for the most choosy reader in Scugog Township and they do need our support. So, how about it folks! Just a Thought Something to think about! Everything important is what we do today - yesterday is gone forever - tomorrow is uncertain - but today we can do the very best we can to make life worth- while! So let's be our best seives! Getting the Job Done We the willing - led by the unknowing are doing the impossible - for the ungrateful. ~We have done so much for.so long with so little - we are now qualified to do anything with nothing - in no time at all! Some people have their first dollar. The person who is really rich is the one who still has his first friend!
