Council demands traffic study for seniors home By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Scugog Council has re- fused to rezone a property on the corner of Perry and Simcoe Streets until they see a traffic study com- pleted on the area. The developers of West Shore Village, a proposed 65-room full service retire- ment home and 35-cluster home development were told by council Monday that the biggest concern surrounding the develop- ment is heavy traffic con- gestion at the intersection. Both Regional Council- lor Marilyn Pearce and Ward 2 Councillor Ken Carruthers told developer Gary Moore the issue of traffic is a huge hurdle that must be dealt with be- fore rezoning is granted. The developers have agreed to have a traffic study completed as soon as possible. The developers say they have solved problems re- garding sewer and drain- age issues as well as storm water management, and are prepared to go ahead with the project. The developers said they want to get started on the project as soon as pos- sible, telling council they wish to keep their goal of opening the facility by mid 1996. Scugog Council is fully behind the project and wants to see it go ahead as soon as possible, but they want the traffic study complete, Mayor Howard Hall said. The development, which is targetted to the mature adult and senior will provide residents with accomodation and care in a setting that over- looks Lake Scugog. The fa- cility is slated to provide a full array of services in- cluding daily meals, full housekeeping and laun- dry services, a variety of activity programs as well as personal care when re- quired, Mr. Moore said. The three-storey build- ing would feature a two- storey dining room, fire- places, library, lounge, hair salon and full activity rooms. In addition to the retire- ment centre, 35 cluster homes (West Shore Vil- lage), also targetted at seniors, are proposed for the property.
