Both teams fought hard and then the first goal was scored by Phil Cochrane and assisted by Carl Dur- ward of the Sharks. Mark Decosta of the Senators, assisted by Ken Jeffrey and Roger Moase shot for the second goal evening the scoreboard. Dave Dickson, unassisted, scored another for the Sharks to bring up the lead. Jay Adam scored an- other goal assisted by Dave Dickson for another goal towards the Sharks. Then, in the last seconds of the first period Rick Olaisen was assisted by Dave Dickson and Jay Adam for a first period score of 4-1. Fred Moffatt opened the second period with a goal for the Sena- tors, assisted by Rob Evans and Capt. Brian Callery. Seconds after that goal, "Captain" scored with the help of Fred Moffatt. Phil Co- chrane, backed by Carl Durward, scored yet an- other goal for the Sharks. In the last sec- onds of the game, Dave Dickson received Lee Steeves pass and shot for the final goal, making the game 6-4 for the Sharks, giving them another win to put under their belts. Game two was played by the Pineridge Wolves and the Taylor Aces. Sean Fewer scored the first goal for the Aces, assisted by Bob McEachern for a quick lead. Larry Pilkey, assisted by Darcy Milligan and Todd Wilbur of the Wolves, fired the puck in to even the score in the first period. Then Larry Pilkey and Darcy Milligan pulled the same shot as be- fore and Larry scored an- other. In the third period, Ken Davison, assisted by Larry Jackson and Todd Wilbur, shot another goal for the Wolves. Wayne Taylor followed by Bill Owen tried to get even but could not. The game ended at a 4-2 win for the Wolves, and left them howling in victory. The third game was played by the J & D Hawks and the Compton Comets. The first goal went to the Hawks thanks to John Mackey who was assisted by Keijo Kinnu- nen and Tim Ashbridge. Then Jason Warner, as- sisted by David Roth, scored the first for the Comets and ended the first period. Jason War- ner, with Chris Brain and Bob Beacock scored in the opening of the second peri- od, followed by Ron Comp- ton, backed by Bill Foote of the Comets. Steve Groves, Gary Lance, and Dennis Lycett of the Hawks, teamed together to score their second goal. Mike McQuaid, assisted by Doug Brown and David Roth, scored another for the Comets, folowed by Ja- son Warner, also of the Comets, assisted by Bill Weisflock and Steve Con- nors, scored yet another goal for the Comets leav- ing the second period at 5- 2. Steve Groves scored an- other for the Hawks with Gary Lance and Brian Burns for the last of their goals today. Doug Bronson ended the game with an- other goal with assists go- ing to Steve Connors and Jason Warner, ending the game at 6-3 for the Com- ets. Game four was an inter- estingly scored game for the Pizza Delight Roosters who opened the game against Fitzgerald's Clip- pers. John Harman, as- sisted by Carl Durham scored the first, second and third goals for the Roosters, one in the first period and the last two in the third, each one assist- ed by Carl Durham. Un- fortunately the Roosters lost thanks to Doug Sup- pelsa, with Rick Campbell and Carl Fitzgerald, also Peter Lane scored, assist- ed by Rick Campbell and Eddie Olsen. Doug Sup- pelsa scored again with Carl and Derek Fitzgerald holding the assists. The fi- nal goal went to Rick Campbell with Tom Barnes to end the game at 4-3 for the Clippers. The last game of the day was played by the Harri- son Flames and the Mon- sma Chargers. Brian Po- meroy scored the first goal with Jack Monsma and Steve Fox assisting. Jack Monsma scored another for the Chargers, assisted by Michael Geer. Then Glen Hudson started the Flames' scoreboard with Bill Bridge and Bruce Smith assisting Glen's shot. Jim Beatty scored another for the Flames as- sisted by Bill Bridge and Glen Hudson. Bruce Smith scored the third goal for the Flames with Bob Lee. Then in the final seconds of the second peri- od Brian Pomeroy fired another goal in for the Chargers, assisted by Mi- chael Geer and Lee Wil- bur. A hitting clinic was put on by Chad Venning, as well as some excellent div- ing fielding plays by both Burkholders at short and third. Hitters for this game were: Ryan Burkholder - walk, single; Rich Burk- holder - two singles, RBI; Cochrane - double; Em- pringham - three RBIs; McLennan - single; McBride - two walks; Ven- ning - single, double. Ven- ning pitched six innings, striking out four, allowing five walks, seven hits, and five earned runs. The Junior Merchants had an excellent year and look forward to making some minor adjustments during the winter to take another run at an All- Ontario Championship next season. The team was coached by Ron Redman, Bob Vander Slagt, and Craig Venning. The team mem- bers were Ryan Burkhold- er, Rich Burkholder, Jeff Card, Jason Cochrane, Duane Empringham, Steve Laird, Scott Ma- cLennan, Jason McBride, Brad Moase, Todd Smart, Darrell Vander Slagt, and Chad Venning. Players who came up during the year to assist were Paul Linton, Ian Shirgley and Doug Short. The team would like to thank both minor ball and the sponsors for all their support during this sea- son.
