Bethesda-Reach Women's Institute began its fall meet- ing last Wednesday. Guest was the co-ordinator from Tialand - who is here in the Uxbridge area as part of the Canada World Youth Ex- change. We saw a few slides of last yarns exchange stu- dents in Tialand. This sparked many questions about the food, families, edu- cation, and traditions of this country. Picture working with the phases of the moon, shortage of water, rice (four times a day) ploughing with a wooden plough and oxen, large families and very hot weather as some of the major cultural differences. Hall budget is struck Caesarea Albert Putsey This week the #1 Cartwright Scout group held their turkey shoot and from what I saw they shot at real targets. It was not a game of chance. The report I re- ceived was they were very hap- py with the days turnout with everyone enjoying themselves. They reminded me of this Sat- urday's car wash at Blackstock High School - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Great going gang. Parents do you know where your children are, who they are playing with and at what? Mon- day afternoon I went to our sign on Hwy. 57 which informs peo- ple of the activities of our vil- lage. A number of the letters were pulled off and were laying in the bottom. The track which holds the letters is split away. I worked from 1 p.m. to after 5 p.m. doing the two sides of the sign and making up a sandwich board sign regarding the turkey shoot. Today seven letters of this sign were destroyed by someone trying to remove them. When 1 write reports like this it does not do the village where you have an investment any good. This is done,by about four people and I can assure you when caught you will be getting alecture from the police on their behavior if the right officer comes. [am glad to report the majori- ty of people in our village are ac- tive in community activities, it's Just that three or four. Let's catch them and bring them in line. The hall board had a gruelling three hour session Sunday night hammering out next year's budget plus the forecast for the next five years. They have their final plans made for the Oct. 14 bazaar and also the Halloween Dance, Oct. 28. Be sure to get your tickets early or you may be disappoint- ed. Pine Ridge Garden Club leave this Thursday on their days out- ing to Breslau and the Kitchen- er Market. Don't forget the meeting this Tuesday, Nestle- ton Hall at 8 p.m. Happy Thanksgiving every- one and of course it's usually the time for the summer cottagers to drain the plumbing and close the shutters. A sign that winter 1s just around the corner. Re- member the great winter we had about three years back with the rink in the park. I as an indi- vidual am calling a meeting at 20 Putsey Dr. Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and I'm assuring you to be on your way home by 9:30 p.m. This is to discuss win- ter activities. I want to see you teenagers, people from the fire department, and parents who are interested in seeing their kids have some winter fun. We have room for some 50 people in our new rec. room so come on out. Saying of the Week Self reverence, self knowl- edge, self control. These three alone lead life to sovereign pow- er.
