Whitby OPP said David E. Williamson, 53, of Janetville, was west- bound on Hwy. 7A in his 1984 Pontiac Fiero around 11:10 a.m. Oct. 8 when the car left the road- way about a kilometre east of Durham Rd. 7, the Island Road. The car hit an embank- ment, rolled over and came to a rest on its roof, police said. An autopsy was to be per- formed to determine if any other factors played a part in the accident. Mr. Williamson leaves daughter Julia and her husband Garnet Northey, and son Robert Williamson and his wife Kathy and a grandson, Steven, as well as his for- mer wife, Carol Skerratt. He also leaves behind brother Alex Williamson and his wife Gail of Port Perry. . A funeral is to be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Port Perry. Durham hospitals dodge the bullet Durham Region will not see any hospital closures this year because of the region's high growth rate, ac- cording to a report from the Hospital Council of Dur- ham Region. The same week that the Minister of Health an- nounced no closures for Durham, a Toronto report recommends that 12 hospitals in Metro be closed. The decision brings about the approval of a plan known as the Durham Region Acute Care Study which takes hospitals a step closer to proceeding with their service development plans, including a regional rehabilitation centre at Whitby General Hospital. All hospitals in Durham Region have endorsed the Acute Care Study. The ministers' approval of the Durham Acute Care Study requires preparation of implementation plans, including construction and operating costs by Febru- ary of next year. The Hospital Council, a voluntary al- liance of the seven hospitals in the Region, will be working closely with the health council for rapid im- plementation.
