It is a facility which we can all be proud and is sure to benefit all sectors of the community hs for years to come. hs Hall starting to get bookings Scugog Centre will seat up fo 450 in spacious surroundings Scugog Centre's new community hall is already seeing an abundance of ac- tivity since opening in late July. Weekend bookings of the hall are beginning to come along as more people hear of the new facility, said Parks and Recreation Co-ordinator Allan Pol- lock. There are a number of organizations and individ- uals renting out the facili- 'ty and many are already Large, bright entrance leads into the planning for next year. The hall is currently booked for 15 weddings in 1996. While weekend book- ings are the responsibility of the township, the week- day bookings are looked after by the YMCA. After moving to the facility last month, the group manag- es all hall activities Mon- day through Friday. The hall currently sees activities from floor hock- ey and dancing to karate and weight watchers groups during the week. The idea for the hall came after a recreational feasibility study was done in the township in 1987. A building committee was formed at that time which included Al Bertrand, Bill Van Camp, Yvonne Chris- tie, Marilyn Pearce, Ho- ward Hall, Ken Gadsden and Ken Carruthers. The centre was built as an infrastructure pro- gram, with funds split be- tween the provincial and federal governments and the township, with no money coming out of the tax levy. At the time of the groundbreaking the Scu- gog Advisory Board intro- duced a special sub com- mittee to oversee the promotional and funding aspects of the hall as well as the future development of Scugog Centre. The sub committee, con- sisting of Bob Hull, Ken- nedy Self, Jim McMillan and Sean Fewer, placed a goal of $100, 000 for the community hall phase of the project. Several community or- ganizations, including the Rotary Club of Port Perry, the Honeydale Womens Institute and Port Perry Minor Hockey, Softball and Ringette made mone- tary contributions to the first phase. The hall has a seating capacity for 450 people and also offers a large lob- by area, lounge area, warming kitchen, addi- tional washrooms, a re- ceiving area, bar facilities, complete sound system, air conditioning and coat check room, as well as 100 tables and 750 chairs, which are included in the rental fees.
