"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" ~ 38- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 17, 1995 The Hall Board worked so hard to put on a good bazaar Saturday and of course they ran into the usual problem with the weather. Taking every- thing into account they and the vendors left the hall with their chins up thinking of better days next spring. The next item on the Hall Board's agenda is the Halloween Dance just two weeks away on Saturday, Oct. 28. Don't forget this Thursday at 7:30 p.m Paul Arculus meet- ing at the church at the Museum centre on the Island. He will again give us an inter- esting talk on our early history of this area. A small admission fee of $2 is requested to cover refreshments and heating the church. Members of the Lake Ne Scugog Historical Society are free. Come on out, [ know you'll enjoy it. The Scouts apple day was a busy one with all groups of Scouting doing their bit. Our boys met back at the Blackstock United Church for lunch and I have heard it was a great suc- cess. I saw a very interesting sign this week which read, "Forget France! Forget Great Britain! Let us all unite ourselves as one great nation from sea to sea to see and live in harmony under the laws of God. Our Firefighter's Association will be holding their Turkey Shoot at the hall Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. May seem a long way off but mark it on the calendar, the days slip by rather fast at this time of the Caesarea Albert Putsey year. The visitors at the Fire Hall open house was down due to the poor weather and conflict- ing other activities. I also guess people wanted to stay home where it was warm. Have you got the answer to this one? ...As you know the Lotto 649 was worth 10 million Saturday night. I had won on the previous draw $2 on the Encore and cashed it in to buy this weeks' 649. In the confu- sion the girl punched in two 649 and two encores up so | said I'd take them because sometimes a mistake 1s a good thing. Both my numbers on the 649 were identical, but the encores were different. Now tell me, if I was the only winner would I have to share the ten million with myself, or would they have given me 20 million dollars? We know we have duplication of numbers that are usually in different loca- tions. Don't become alarmed, I didn't get one number right. Harry Gay had quite a good write up in the Seniors paper in September by Jacquie McInnes. It told of Harry's life along with his volunteer work Hard work on bazaar hampered by the weather with the Oshawa General Hospital. He still goes into the office of Gay Construction daily. Harry, I hope I'm in as good a shape when [I'm 82. Congratulations! Joke of the Week A minister with two lovely daughters was admiring the beauty of a owing stream. A fisherma ssing by called out in greeting, "Catching any?" "I'm a fisherman of men", replied the preacher. "Well", observed the fisher- man with an admiring glance at the girls, "you have the right bait". Saying of the Week Harmony is one phase of the great law whose spiritual expression is love. Thought for the week: Maturity is when you realize how much you thought you knew, but didn't. Blackstock U.C.W. meets Regional meetings soon The afternoon unit met at Thelma Wright's home with nine ladies present. ~ Thelma opened the meet- ing with a poem "A Thank- ful Heart." Thelma had the worship service based on Philippians which deals with maturity. Do everything without com- plaining - appreciate what others have and be happy for them. We sang the hymn "Come Ye Thankful People." Roll call was an- swered by stating what you would like to do. Sev- eral answered by wishing to know more about com- puters. The regional meetings are as follows: Wednes- day, Oct. 18 Claremont at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 St. Stephen's at 1:30 p.m. The speaker for both meetings to be Dorinda Vollmer.
