The second period saw the home team take command and skate away with 13-5 victory. Scoring in the second period for Port was Sarah with her third, from Kelly and Shannon from Sarah. On Sunday, we trav- elled to Scarborough. A good nights sleep seem to make a big difference as our girls came out strong. From the opening free pass Port put pressure on the Scarborough goalie. After several attempts Sa- rah opened the scoring at the seven minute mark as- sisted by Kelly and Heath- er. Three minutes later Shannon scored on a nice long pass from Sheena. End of the first period 2 - 0 for Port. Quickly into the second period Sarah scored again from Heath- er. Scarborough came back and got one past Alai- na who was playing in goal in only her fourth game ever as a goalie. Half way through the second, Shan- non scored from Alaina B. and Sarah. The home team got one back but we scored in the final minute when Sheena fed Alaina B. who made no mistake giving Port a 5-2 win. Im- proving play by our new defence Elizabeth and Col- leen along with our rookie forwards Colleen B., Lisa and Jessica played a ma- jor role in this victory. Keep skating hard and passing girls, this is a good sign of things to come. E KELLY LOWN/PORT PERRY STAR CARTWRIGHT MINOR BALL representatives rounded up a bunch of outdat- ed equipment from their league and are donating it to the Attawapiskat native reserve on James Bay. The shipment of bats, bases, balls, helmets, catcher masks and chest protectors will be used by more than 500 kids who live on the reserve and do not have summer sporting equipment. Pictured with the equipment are Cody Rundle, Katelyn Rundle, Corey Hellingman, Mitch Truax and Patrick Wotten. Hunter notches shutout for Novices The smiles and cheers were flowing in the Novice C contingent dressing room following two victorious home games this past weekend. Jill Hunter's goaltending ability shone in Saturday's matchup against Oshawa 2 as she savored in her first shutout of the season. Ceilidh Baxter led the scoring race with seven goals, one assist. Jessica Doe followed with four goals, one assist. Amanda Curry was right in there with three goals, two assists. Sarah Woods and Sarah Dallas refused to be left out each scoring them- selves a good goal. Assists were also picked up by Caitlyn Hellingman, Mal- lory Stokes and Jenna Davison. (Wel- come back Jenna!) Good team effort also demonstrated by Catherine Copeland, Brooke Simp- son, Lyndsay Whyte and Trevor Doe. Despite the score (16-0) Oshawa 2 (high percentage of first year novice) never gave up challenging Jill's shutout with at least 12 solid shots on net in the last two minutes of the game. Team spirit was alive once again as Sundays competition brought Scarbo- rough to town to face a 21-11 defeat. Goals were scored by Ceilidh (five), Amanda (four), Brooke (four), Jessica (four), Trevor (three) and Jenna (one). Assists earned were Ceilidh (five), Jes- sica (three), Brooke (two), Amanda (two), Sarah Woods (one), and Trevor (one).
