Our choir sang an upbeat Lula Anthem enti- tled, "See Yah Hahmbua Koo Kah Nigh Nee Kwin Kohs", "For the Lord is our Light", and we welcome new voices to the choir as they prepare for the up- coming Anniversary. Next Sunday, Oct. 29, the Sun- day School will be having the last week of the fall fill-up so don't forget to wear a hat, scarf or tie, sports shirt or all of them or a surprise, this will help your team to fill up the jar and don't forget your Bible and bring a friend. Greenbank Church will be celebrating its 99th An- niversary on Nov. 5. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a half hour of or- gan/organ and piano musi- cale prelude. The new church organ and new choir gowns will be dedi- cated at this service. Guest speaker will be Rev. Jack Griffen of Columbus United Church. Lunch will be served after the service. Everyone is wel- come, please come and help us celebrate. Church calendars for 1996 are now being or- dered. Please place your order by contacting Barb Ward at 985-3903. The U.C.W. will hold its November meeting next Wednesday in the Sunday School Rooms at 1:30 p.m. There will be a guest speaker, so bring a neigh- bor and come and enjoy the fellowship. The Greenbank Eve- ning Unit U.C.W. invites you on a trip to the Sears Warehouse and Dixie Out- let Mall, Thursday, Nov. 2. Bus leaves the church yard at 8:30 a.m. and re- turns at 6 p.m. This is for any community members so contact Dianne Stone 985-7459. Congratulations to Mu- riel Gibson who won sec- ond prize on her champion quilt from Sunderland Fair. This competition was held at the Annual Meeting of District Four Fairs Association where champion quilts from 17 fairs were exhibited. Ted Cordner, formerly of Greenbank won first prize in the whole wheat bread competion for the second year. There has been a Pileat- ed woodpecker, (also known as the cock of the North) making his home in the bush around the Ninth Concession and Hwy. 12. It usually stays in the same location but recently has been moving around a bit. It has been seen twice at the ball dia- monds in Ianson Park. This is the largest of the woodpecker family and can easily be mistaken for a game bird by the inexpe- rienced hunter. This bird 1s very rare, so please take extra care to avoid any mishaps with this fine specimen. Last Sunday, Oct. 22, great grandparents, Art and Pearl Couves, great- grandmother Eileen Dob- son, Glen, Mary Jean Till, Brian and Janice Lee and family attended the bap- tism of Melissa Jessie El, daughter of Robert and Laurie Dobson. The ser- vice took place in Christ Memorial Anglican Church in Oshawa and Janice Lee accepted the responsibilities of being a Godmother for Melissa. The family was enter- tained for lunch following the service at the home of Robert and Laurie. Last Wednesday morn- ing 14 members and friends of the Womens In- stitute enjoyed a tour of Ocala Wineries. It is most gratifying to see a local in- dustry start out and do so well, we wish Irwin and Alissa Smith future suc- cess and we thank Dar- lene Hoskin for a very in- formative tour. Following the tour, the ladies had lunch at Haugens where a short meeting was held. Six members then attend- ed the 85th Anniversary of the Shirley Institute. Don't forget the Lions Club Halloween Party this coming Saturday, Oct. 28 - 11:30 am. to 2 p.m. at Greenbank Hall. The cost is $3 for children up to eight years old. Fill out the form that you can get at Greenbank Store and put itin the box. Thought for the week: Friendship is like a bank account - you cannot draw upon it without making deposits.
