SUIT "A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 24, 1995 -3 100 attend new hall opening By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star More than 100 people were on hand to celebrate the official opening of the Scugog Centre Communi- ty Hall on Friday night. The new 1,040 square metre multi-purpose facil- ity, which has been open for three months, was a $1.13 million Canada Ontario Infrastructure Works Project, split be- tween the federal and pro- vincial governments and the Township of Scugog. Mayor Howard Hall, who headed the fundrais- ing committee of Scugog Arena in 1975, expressed his pride in the new facili- ty in a brief address to those in attendance and thanked all who were a part of the building pro- cess. Neither MP Alex Shep- herd or MPP John O'Toole were able to attend the opening, but sent represe- native on theirbehalf. Louise Jones, executive assistant to MPP O'Toole and Barbara Pruefer, as- sistant to Alex Shepherd, both brought greeting and congratuatory messages from the government. Both noted that the Township. of Scugog should be proud of its new hall and the initiative that saw it all come together. The hall is the first phase in a master plan that will see a second ice pad and aquatic centre, among other additions. "This hall will serve the general purpose and rec- reational needs of the com- munity," said Jerry Tay- lor, who served as Master of Ceremonies for the eve- ning. A very large crowd assembled to support the new officers for the 1995/96 year. Installing Officer was Mrs. Karel Nottingham as- sisted by her husband, Jack Nottingham. Fred Alton was the Installing Marshal. Many others assisted in the ceremonies.
