oo RE TE TE Tr EEE aT TET. yaya a ny "A Famlly Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 31, 1995 -9 Pilgrimage touched students deeply From Page 1 province, but the unmis- takable Canadian vast- ness remained the same. Fellow Canadians within Quebec cheered us on as we approached our desti- nation. Upon our arrival, we disembarked and merged into the growing crowds. Entering into this crowd was an experience | will never fo rget. Individuality was given over to collectivism, and our common purpose was a bond that held us firmly together. Whether the individual was French or English, young or old, one common thought pre- vailed...Canada United. The speakers gave voice to our collective thoughts and the crowd surged with the energy that our commonality in purpose bestowed upon us. The Canadian and Quebec flags swayed together in the breeze peacefully, as they have always done. As the speakers on stage gave voice to our wish for a strong, united nation, there was no doubt in our minds that we had indeed done what we had come to do. Gone was any doubt that the individual could make a difference. Every individ- ual present made a dif- ference in the coming ref- erendum. This expression of com- passion and love speaks for the distinctive char- acter that Canada as a nation shares. We are thankful to the commu- nity for presenting us with the opportunity to spread the goodwill we share. We know the future of Canada is a strong, united and free one. Upon reflecting on the days' events, | realized that we are indeed blessed. In a world where blood is shed in the attempt to rip nations apart, we live in a country where people express their love for one another and rally against the forces that would see us divided.
