"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 7, 1995 - 17 o Atyeo promises fine evening of Greenbank folk An evening of fine folk is on tap next Saturday (Nov. 11) when Robert Atyeo and the Friendly Giants play the Greenbank Hall. The much-admired Canadian musician is next up in the Greenbank Folk Music Society's ongoing series, and promises an evening of boisterous entertainment, filled with wry observances. Since bursting onto the folk scene Robert Atyeo has quickly established himself as a singer and song- writer of note, attracting the attention of some of Canada's well-established performers. He was joined by Willie P. Bennett and Tony Quarrington in the original Friendly Giants -- a moniker that had to be withdrawn after a request Le a : from that other Friendly and his lawyers -- and has Sy Bah : gone on to work with the likes of Jane Siberry, Colleen = Se Peterson, Jeff Bird and David Woodhead. He has also been opening for the much-lauded Stephen Fearing. He's compared to J.J. Cale, John Prine and Tom Waits, delivering character and situation pieces that have been released on recordings Angels on a cliff, and the earlier Songs For Your Face. Brandon Scott and Band will open for Atyeo next Saturday at the Greenbank Hall. Ghost Railways topic of talk Next Monday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m., the Oshawa His- torical Society will be presenting Ghost Railways. The speaker will be Ron Brown, author of the well- known series of Ghost Town books, including Ghost Towns of Ontario. Mr. Brown will discuss the subject of his latest book, Ghost Railways. This is the second time that Ron Brown will be addressing the society. Admission is free for society members, $1 for non- members. As he did last time Mr. Brown will bring copies of his books to sell.
