Many workplace campaigns in the public service division are going strong. Canada Post, City of Oshawa, and the Region of Durham are all on track and report attaining approximately 50 per cent or more of their individual goals. Provincial employees continue to show support for the United Way cam- paign despite many recent government cutbacks. Donations received through the annual workplace campaign benefit more than 80,000 people by sup- porting over 40 local agencies which provide over 200 programs and services. Some of these agencies in- clude Big Brothers, St. John Ambulance, and the Dis- tress Centre of Durham Region. Megan, who is currently attending Durham Col- lege in her first year of studies in graphic design will be using the bursary money to offset her tuti- tion. Megan said she was sur- prised and honored by the bursary and feels it will be a great asset to her re- sumein later years. A number of people ap- plied for the bursary, but Megan's wide scope of tal- ent impressed the selec- tion committee. "We had a number of talented people apply. We were 80 impressed with her (Megan's) work. She is very talented," said Bar- bara Carnegie, who along with Jane Litt and Cath- ryn Hall make up the se- lection committee. Megan's accomplish- ments include writing and sculptures. Megan is planning to at- tend York University or Ryerson to obtain a Fine Arts Degree when she con- cludes her studies at Dur- ham College. She would like to write children's books in the future. Mrs. Farndale, who was on hand to make the bur- sary presentation, lives down the street from Meg- an, and commented that the Baxter family are all strong patrons of the arts. She again thanked the committee for setting up the bursary, which she says is an honor to have her name attached to. Mrs. Farndale says she keeps in contact with the two former winners of the award, Alice White and Katie Van Camp, and will be following Megan's ca- reer as well. The Kent Farndale bur- sary is for artists, would- be artists and students in all fields of work from painters andesculptors to jewellers and fibre artists. The bursary was estab- lished at the local library in honor of Kent Farndale, who for several years in- troduced Scugog Town- ship to a wide spectrum of. artists. The fund is sup- ported by donations from arearesidents.
