As you may have read in our weekly reports from Seagrave, leaders and the Guides, Brownies and Sparks who spent the day Nov. 4 canvassing for cookie sales were disap- pointed when their re- ceipts came up short. Guides leader Kate MacDonald said she was accompanying one of her girls on her rounds, but was unable to leave the car and go to doors of homes with her as she was caring for her young son. "When we got back to the church and counted out the girl's money, we found out she was $15 short," said Mrs. MacDon- ald. "We didn't know what to think," she added. "She's only nine, and there's a good chance she just dropped it." The girl was also allow- ing folks to make chan for purchases of the §3 cookies, so it's possible some mix-up occurred. Whatever the case, lead- ers quietly put up enough money to.cover the dis- crepancy, and considered the case closed. Diane Cooke, one of the Star's two correspondents making weekly reports from Seagrave, made passing mention of the lost money in her column that appeared Nov. 7, and that seems to have prompted the donation, said 8. MacDonald. She was approached by a local resident who hand- ed her $50, told her to give it to the Guides, and not mention any names. So the Guides' $15 has been replaced, and the re- mainder of the donation split among the Brownies and Sparks, said Mrs. MacDonald. Meanwhile, cookie sales were brisk, with the girls in Seagrave moving most of the 60 cases of mint chocolate cookies they sell annually as a major fund- raiser. "We've pretty well sold all of ours," said Mrs. Mac- Donald. Forder-Parks Insurance Brokers Inc.
