"A Famlly Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 21, 1995 -19 SPORTS Swamp stays in second country Style Bantam action The first half of the sea- son has come to an end al- ready as each team has played 10 games to date. The standings haven't changed much over the past three weeks with Brooklin remaining ahead of the pack followed close- ly by the Swampers. The Swampers stayed in second place after their 1-0 win over The Framer's in the first game on Sun- day afternoon. The lone goal game from the broom of Mike Mole with Brian Pomeroy drawing the as- sist with 1:25 showing in the opening period. Keith Tremblay recorded his second shutout of the year for the Swampers. Game two was also a tight affair with Black- stock's Brewers and Trad- er Sam's battling to a 1-1 overtime tally. After a 0-0 score in regulation time, Trader's scored first in OT with Ken St. Amant grab- bing an errant pass and putting it into the empty net. This was replied shortly thereafter with Tom Wotten scoring for Blackstock from Dave Dal- ton and Tim Cochrane. Eaglettes win 16-5 "On the Road Again". That's right, Sunday evening Whitby hosted our Port Perry XL Eaglettes, Novice C Team, and obliging hosts they were! The visitors seemed to take full advantage of Whitby's hospitality. It was clear, the guests decided no penalties, no givea- way.and no mercy would bring the win home! Eaglettes were flying from the opening, whistle ending the first period with a score of 10-3. Goals in the first half of the game went to Ceilidh (three), Jes- sica (three), Sarah Woods (two) and Amanda (two). Assists to Sarah Woods (two), Jessica (two) and Brooke and Ceilidh (each one). Ceilidh Baxter's three goals were unassisted as was one of Amandas'. Wow! The second period started much like the first! With a bang! XL picked up an additional six goals in this eriod. Goals in the second half of the game went to Brooke Simpson (two), Jenna Davison (two) and Cei- lidh and Amanda each for one. Two assists went to Amanda as well, Ceilidh, Jessica and Sarah Woods each picked up one. After Whitby scored an additional two goals Eaglettes wrapped up their visit with a fi- nal score of 16-5. The goal scorers weren't the only players on the ice! A pat on the back goes to our rookie netminder Lynd- say Whyte, who doned the goal equipment for the first time (no practices, brave girl!) and with quite a few nice saves skated away with the win! As well doing a fine job at defending that net was Catherine Cope- land, Trevor Doe, Sarah Dallas and Jill Hunter, and lets not forget Caitlyn Hellingman, an Eaglette with a strong wing! Fellow fans - see you in Markham Sat- urday night! Let's go get 'em! The third period was all Port Perry as Scott Jeffrey and Dillan Weber with his fourth of the night round- ed out the scoring for a convincing 8-3 win over Port Hope. Assisting on these two goals were Ca- sey Van Schagen, Derek Tindall and Adam Hobbs. Ryan Fraser played be- tween the pipes for Port and put in a solid perfor- mance for the Country Style Donuts. Next up for the Port Perry Bantams was a game in Uxbridge on Nov. 10. It must be something with Port Perry and Ux- bridge because once again this game started out as a sleeper. There wasn't much happening in the first until Troy Campbell opened up the scoring with two quick goals late in the period. Picking up the assists on these goals were Casey Van Schagen, Scott Jeffrey, Dillan We- ber and Dave Gainey. In the second, big Jon Froats finally found the net with his first of the year to increase Port's lead to 3-0. Danny Lyons picked up the assist. In the third, Uxbridge made a gallant attempt at a comeback with two quick goals, but Dave Gainey sealed the win with a goal in the last minute. Mike MacLennan was in net for this 4-2 win for Port, and played very well when called on to do so. Port Perry Bantam 1's next encounter was with Trenton on Nov. 13 at the Scugog Arena. We had previously beaten Trenton to the tune of 7-0, but this was a different bunch of boys who shoed up from Trenton tonight. From the drop of the puck you could tell they weren't going to be embarrassed again. After the first period was over, Trenton had jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The second period start- ed with Port working hard to get back into the game. Their efforts were reward- ed with two quick goals early in the period. Wyatt Park led the charge with the first goal followed by Troy Campbell for the sec- ond. Assists went to Scott Jeffrey, Adam Hobbs, Nick Pelyk and Dave Gai- ney. Trenton rebounded with their fourth, but Port Perry roared back, with goals from Brad Johnston and Wyatt Park to end the second 4-4. Danny Lyons, Ian Parliament and Dillan Weber drew the assists on the goals. The third period was a barn burner with end to end action as each team fought to gain the upper hand. Early in the third, Dillan Weber scored to give Port a 5-4 lead with assists going to Dave Gai- ney and Glenn McCready. Trenton were not going to give up yet as they turned on the jets and scored two goals for a 6-5 lead. Port rallied again as Adam Hobbs tied the game at six with the help of Dillan We- ber and Troy Campbell. Unfortunately for Port, Trenton were not going to give up and they scored the winner late in the peri- od for a 7-6 win. Port Perry Country Style Donuts were in the Cobourg tournament this past weekend (Nov. 17-19) so watch the paper for the next update on how they fared.
