Markham White Rose team opened the scoring race at 10:06 of the first period. Eaglettes Jessica Doe picked her corner and tied up the game with Ports first goal being scored at 8:27. Two min- utes later Amanda Curry left her opponent in shock, robbing her blind of the ring and went in for the kill. But Markham retali- ated leaving the first peri- od tied 2-2. The Markham team must be commended for their passing ability, which makes for a strong offense, they opened the second period with one such goal. At 6:30 in the second period Brooke Simpson set up the play for Amanda Curry who popped the ring in for the 3-3 tie. At this point in the game our team was start- ing to feel the effects of their late flight. Try as they may they didn't score again. White Rose put the game to rest after an addi- tional three goals. With a final score of 6-3 XL. Ea- glettes bravely faced their defeat. Jill Hunter be- tween the pipes for Port made numerous saves to hold down the score. All Eaglettes are trying hard and improving with each game! Stats to date prove this observation with our games recorded as six wins, two losses and one tie. Anyone interested in checking out the XL Ea- glettes in flight come see us on home territory this Saturday at 2 p.m. Show em what ringette is all about Eaglettes! Forder-Parks Insurance Brokers Inc. L1G 454 Guaranteed 434-7156 or Compton were B finalists On Nov. 10, Compton Cable was at Orono for an away from home match. There was plenty of end- to-end action as Orono took a 3-0 lead in the first period. Port Perry got in the game thanks to the ef- forts of the Charron Broth- ers. Matt took a shot (and what a beauty) and Chris bagged the assist. Broth- erly love - you betcha! Orono grabbed two more goals in the third pe- riod. Craig Simmonds, Craig Kehoe and Hayley Campbell all tried their best, but it just wasn't meant to be this time. Team captain for this game was Jake Jones and the assistant captains were Hayley Campbell and Matt Charron. On Saturday, Nov. 11 the team was off to Man- vers Arena for a tourna- ment. What a day! We were all glad we had hock- ey as it was a miserable, cold, rainy day. In our first game of the day, Compton started off slowly (maybe it was the weather) and our hosts took us down 5-0 despite the efforts of Kris- ty Ashton, Blake Cunning- ham, Mike Redman, and Adam Smart. The team captain for this game was Kristy Ashton. Assistants were Mitch Truax and Adam Smart. In our second matchup of the day, Compton had energized themselves and came away with the sweet taste of victory. Compton jumped right into the game. Blake Cunningham was the key goalscorer in this game. At the 6:43 mark, Blake had a picture perfect goal (unassisted). In the second period, Blake gave the fans a re- play with another marker with 1:54 left (also unas- sisted). In the third, Craig Sim- monds decided it was his turn and down the ice he went. The shot was bang on and the Keene goalie didn't have a chance. Craig's goal was also unas- sisted. Keene came in with one of their own at the 6:23 mark of the third, but that's all they could mus- ter. The hard working ef- forts and strong plays of Matt Meaner, Mitch Tru- ax, Brett Simmonds, Chris Charron and Tyler Cunningham paid off with a win for the team. d'he fi- nal score was Compton SPORTS will continue in The Weekend Star Cable 3 - Keene 1. Team captain was Jake Jones and the assistants were Hayley Campbell and Matt Charron. That win put us into the B championship against Oshawa. We ended up as B finalists, with a score of Oshawa 6 - Compton 1. Unfortunately, we didn't receive the game re- port for this game and with so much activity that day, I can't remember who picked up that lone goal. But, you know who you are and the team and fans would like to thank you for ensuring Oshawa didn't get a shutout. Way to go Compton Cable B final- ists! With the tournament over, the boys and girls, trophies in hand, all head- ed home (in the rain). It was a great day!! Well or- ganized, souvenirs for all who participated. Man- vers can be proud of their efforts and the Compton Cable team would like to thank them for a wonder- ful day. After a day like that, it is hard to come back to re- ality and league games again, but that's just what we had to do. Friday, Nov. 17 saw the team back at home in Port against Mar- iposa. There is always plenty of action at these games and a few missed opportu- nities, but it is not for lack of trying. The team played well, up and down the ice, but Mariposa always had their man (or lady) cov- ered. Craig Simmonds, Jake Jones, Matt Menear, Tyler Cunningham, and Brett Simmonds plugged away, as did Adam Smart, Mike Redman and Kristy Ashton, but...the Maripo- sa goalie got the shutout for this game, as the final . score was 6-0 for Maripo- sa. The team captain for this game was Mitch Tru- ax and the assistants were Brett Simmonds and Craig Kehoe. You'll notice that the names of the goalies have not been mentioned once during this report, but that's because I was sav- ing the best for last. These two young fellows spend their time between the pipes, having shots let go on them constantly, and still maintain their compo- sure. Some do get by them, but then again, they stop a great number of them too. Our goalies, Sam Bennett and Kyle Geer deserve credit for their time in net, because if it wasn't for - these guys with the thick padding on, the scores could be much higher than they have been. The team is in a little slump right now -- hey, it "happens -- but we're sure all the hard work at prac- tice will pay off as the guys and gals play their posi tions and pull together as a team! Isthink I speak for all the parents and fans of this team...we are really proud of you kids. You nev- er give up, you just keep digging until the final buzzer sounds. It shows a great deal of sportsman- ship and class on your part. You should be proud of yourselves. You know the old saying "good things come to those who wait."
