"A Family Tradition for 128 Years' J PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 19, 1995 - 11 Fund set up for man who lost wife, daughter By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star Neighbors are hoping to help a man cope with the intense grief he's feeling after losing his wife and a daughter in a house fire last week. Bob Perry is devastated after his wife Doris, 57, a retired teacher, and daughter Kim, a nursing student at Durham College, died in a fire Tuesday morning at their home on the Manvers-Darlington Townline, southeast of Blackstock. Investigators have yet to make a statement, but it's believed the fatal fire may have started in a woodstove, started up by the two women after a hydro outage in the deep cold of the early-morning hours Dec. 12. Mr. Perry, whose sister Esther Clodd lives in Prince Albert, is staying with his son Les in Pontypool following the fire, which destroyed the home and all the family's possessions. Insurance on the home had elapsed a few months ago. That's why members of the Emedi clan, who have been neighbors of the family for the past nine years, are starting a fundraising drive to provide Mr. Perry with some support in the short-term and, possibly, build him a new home come next spring. Moses, 83, and sons Vladimir, 50, and Kris, 48, have already offered to donate free lumber from their yard toward the effort, and are hop- ing that the community will answer their call for help. "They're good people," said Vladimir late last week. The Emedis have already helped Mr. Perry out with a $1,200 donation, to get by in the short-term and buy clothes for the funeral of his wife and daughter, which was held Saturday afternoon in Bowmanville. Those who wish to help the cause can make a donation by sending cheques to the Robert Perry Fund in Trust, /o Esther Clodd, Box 3051, Prince Albert, LOL 1C1, or make a direct deposit in Bowmanville Toronto Dominion bank account 3304196. Any questions can be direct- ed to the Emedis at (905) 263- 80568.
