Children everywhere are getting excited so please watch out for children getting off their buses esnecial- ly on Friday when they will be arriving home one hour earlier. I had an opportunity to visit Santa downtown and he is look- ing extremely well for this time of the year! Scugog Island United Church A service of communion was held on Sunday and our third Advent candle was lit by Bonnie Bell, Robin Adderley and Jona- than Hamelinck. Our ministry of music was provided by our own Orchestra. They will be joining us again next Sunday News from Ashburn By Florence Ashton I would like to begin this col- umn by wishing all of our read- ers both near and far a very hap- py and blessed Christmas, and all the best for the year 1996. Also special greetings and good wishes to all the staff of the Port Perry Star. A family Christmas Eve can- dlelighting service will be held at Burns Church at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to join with us with your families for this special service. Debbie Batten is home from College and spending the Christmas holidays with her parents Ross and Diane. Visiting with Bernice Gard- ner and Jean recently were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wilcock, Ux- bridge. Bernice accompanied by Everett, Joan and Heather Westfall attended a Christmas family gathering at the home of Chris and Frank McKimm of Burnt River on Saturday. On Tuesday evening, Doug and Florence Ashton visited Lloyd Pugh of Pickering. On Saturday evening, Ron and Patricia Ashton enter- tained family and friends to a delicious turkey dinner and spending part of the evening singing Christmas carols. It's euchre night at the Com- munity Centre on Thursday at 8 p.m. Come along and enjoy a good evening with your frien ds. morning! The Junior Youth Group enjoyed their Christmas party following the service. Spe- cial thanks to their leaders. At 2 p.m. a small, but mighty group went Christmas carolling to our church friends who find it diffi- cult to get out during the winter months. Special thanks to Bon- nie Gerrow and Betty Reader for making the lovely gift bas- kets. Last Sunday our White Gifts were presented and we would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and espe- cially to Bonnie Gerrow for all her work organizing this worth- while project. There will be a rehearsal for the Christmas Eve Service on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the church. On Sunday, Dec. 24 at 9:45 a.m. our choir will be present- ing their Cantata called "Forev- er Christmas." Their narrator will be Joel Aldred. This will be a family service. Don't forget our minister, Elaine Barber, will be in charge of the services at the Nursing Home and Villa on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 3 p.m. This would be a great opportunity for families to share the joys of Christmas with the residents. ~ Our joint.Christmas Eve Ser- vice will be held at Scugog Is- land United Church on Sunday, Dec. 24 at 7:30 p.m. For pastoral care call Elaine Barber at 985-4094. Santa took time out .of his busy schedule to drop by to visit with the children during breakfast. UCW enjoys a Christmas dinner Friends of Grace Beacock and family are thinking of you in Seagrave Hope everyone is "holding up" what with the shopping, visiting, entertaining, Christmas card writing, bak- ing, school concerts, wrap- ping, more shopping, etc....sort of gives a new twist to "Peace on Earth" when this rush is over, wouldn't you agree!? Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Herb Hatch, Alma Colwell, Michelle Zid- ner, and Billy Sandiford. Welcome home to any col- lege and/or university stu- dents that are home for the Christmas holidays. 'Get well wishes to Mick Sadler who broke his leg last week - hope you're feeling better soon! Awaiting 'peace on earth' Sympathy is extended to the Sandiford family in the passing of Bill's younger brother Danny. Seagrave Church News: Rev. D. Shepherd's sermon on Sunday was on "Christ- mas Let Down". George and Brad Hill lit the third advent candle of joy. Brad also read the scripture on Mary and Joseph. The choir sang a beautiful anthem, "He is Born" accompanied by the or- ganist Muriel Jebson. Next Sunday (Dec. 24) the regular service will be at 10 a.m. The Christmas Eve service will be 7:30 p.m. at the Seagrave Church when Pinedale and Greenbank will join for wor- ship. All are welcome. Ann Sandiford and I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy new year. Safe trav- elling to all who are on the roads. Les and Grace have lived in the Prince Albert area for many years. Sympathy is also extended to Bertie Bonnell in the passing of her sister Lyla Barnard of To- ronto. The members of the U.C.W. met on Wednesday evening in the church hall for their Christ- mas meeting. A delicious dinner of Chinese food was enjoyed by all. A short business meeting was held, then several members took part in reading the Christ- mas story and singing carols. A committee will be putting to- gether the boxes for the two families that the church are providing for Christmas for Op- eration Scugog. Some over gifts and food were turned in plus money to buy the rest of the items needed. Several of the la- dies will be delivering the gifts for the shutins. On Sunday The Third Advent candle Joy was lit by Mark, Heather, Sean and Adam Lucas who are visiting from Australia. The boys are really enjoying our snow. A special thank you was extended to Carol Morrow who has been our guest organist the past two Sundays. The choir sang a lovely anthem. Next Sunday, Christmas Sunday, 11:30 a.m. service then a com- bined evening service at 7 p.m. in the Port Perry United Church with Rev. Bob Le Page leading the service Sunday, Dec. 31 combined service at Port Perry at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dorinda Vollmer leading the service. Merv and Ilean Pugh hosted their family Christmas on Sat- urday with family from Trout Creek, Whitby, Port Perry, R.R. 3, Uxbridge. On Sunday Ken and Mary Williamson had their families home for their Christmas get to- gether. There was no euchre on Thursday due to poor road con- ditions. If the weatherman cooperates the Christmas eu- chre will be held this Thursday at 8 p.m. There will also be a eu- chre Dec. 28. At this time Merv and I would like to thank all out friends and neighbors who gave us their support by phone calls, visits and being there when we need- ed them in the past year. We wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
