"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Thursday, December 28, 1995 - 11 Former councillor doing well Caesarea by Albert Putsey We have had another great Christmas and this year there were no disap- pointments. We even had snow and were never in doubt of havingit. This past week at our son's home the dogs woke them up at 2:30 a.m. They went outside to see what was happening when two people headed off down the road. Our son's skidoo was in the centre of the road. Police arrived with dogs and tracked them to a garage some distance away. From this point we don't know what hap- pened. Dealing with batteries from these back up elec- tronic gadgets and fire Neighbor saves two from burning home By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star A Cannington man saved the lives of his neighbors after kicking their door down and awak- ening them from sleep to alert them that their home was on fire. Donald Gordon's dog awoke him at 4:30 a.m. on Boxing Day wanting out- - side. When Mr. Gordon went to the door he noticed flames shooting out of the roof of his neighbor's home. Mr. Gordon told his wife to call 9-1-1 and he rushed to the home to see if any- one was inside. After re- ceiving no response from banging on the door, he broke it down and awoke William Hawkings and El- eanor Fleming, and helped them escape. The home, which was completely gutted by the fire was a weekend home to the North York couple. All three Brock Town- ship fire halls responded "to the blaze, which is be- lieved to have started in the attic. alarms, a good rule to fol- low is the week end of change. When we change our clocks for daylight savings or vice versa it's time tc change all your batteries. Your life and your computer memory are worth a lot more than a couple of cheap batter- ies. Dealing with Gus Mach- er and the basketball tour- naments. I had one promi- nent citizen call me this past week. I can only say, get your teams arranged, get some practicing in and watch for the January meeting. People from time to time ask me about Dave Dietle- in who was always at out side in the many efforts we put forth in our communi- ty. I'm glad to report I heard from Dave over the holidays and his last medi- cal checkup was Al. He is planning on taking a trip sometime in the new year. Chemotherapy saved Dave's life, but it was cer- tainly a very agonizing pe- riod during his cure. Joke of the Week: One day when I showed our busy receptionist some work that needed to be done, she looked espe- cially frazzled. Trying to lighten the moment a bit, I teased, "We just like to keep you on your toes." "Then I should be a balleri- na by now." she retorted. Saying of the Week on Enjoyment: Work isnot aman's pun- ishment. It is reward and his strength and his pleas- ure.
