OT I EE Ses ET ---- "A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, January 3, 1996 - 23 Compton faces 'Dream Team' This sport's column is has been dedicat- ed to reporting the Compton Cable Novice B team names and numbers over the last few months. We've all seen our names in lights (many times), but this is a special report. We faced off this week against the "Dream Team" (that's what they were call- ing themselves). Our parents -- moms and dads, and really good sports. Port headed out of the dressing room yelling the now infamous Port team cheer "We're red, we're white, we're dynamite" with their new coach, Heather Jones. Not to be outdone, the Dream Team came up with a chant of their own, "We're old, we're grey, we just want to play." The Compton team knew they would have to earn this one. The first goal on the board was recorded by Don Simmonds (assist. coach) for the Dream Team. Then Ian Cunningham de- cided it was his turn and let one fly for Gord Geer's (manager) glove side. The score 2-0 for the Dream Team. Port turned up the heat. Jake Jones hit pay dirt, as did Craig Kehoe on a beauty breakaway. The score was 2-2. The rush was on. The Compton team would like to thank a dad for their third goal. It was abeauty Bob. Thatsa my boy! A special thank you to all the Dream Team players: Linda Ashton, Carol Ben- nett, Brett Campbell, Rick Charron, Ian Cunningham, Gord Geer, Craig Jones, Colleen Kehoe, John Redman, Don Sim- monds and especially to Bob Truax, as well as a few other relatives whose names I'm not sure of. Terry Smart, trainer, did an exceptional job of being the referee. You spoiled us though. The team loved those faceoffs and would like to see those during all our regu- lar games. The final score--you'll have to add it up, but I know everyone had fun. Thanks for being such good sports, 'It's back to reality now. We have a prac- tice in Blackstock Jan. 4 getting us ready for the tournament in Norwood on Jan. 6. On Jan. 7 we'rein Bewdley at 3:30 p.m. From Page 19 and family of New Liskeard were among the gathering at Mrs. Laroque's house. Also joined the group at Don Beacock's home on Boxing Day. | There were 11 tables of euchre on Thursday evening. The winners were Helen Wozney, Doris Manns, Lillian All- bright, Joe McCaslin, Thomas Manns, 'Holiday social agenda busy Art Gibson. Lone hand series winners Carl Gimblett, Milton Anderson tied with 11 each. Merv and Ilean Pugh spent a couple of days in Trout Creek with Ivan, Linda and Cassandra Pugh. ' Keith and Sarah Elliott hosted a New Years' Eve party for a number of their friends. Good friends and good food make a great party.
