Event's back in Scugog after five-year absence Winter riders gearing up for Snowarama fun run By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Snowarama returns to Scugog this month after a five-year absence. Co-ordinator Marion Lee is preparing for at least 400 riders to take part in the January 21 run, which raises money annually for the Easter Seal Society. Snowmobilers have raised more than $12 mil- lion since 1975 for Easter Seals children. Locally the goal is to raise $5,000 dur- ing the 1996 event. Each year snowmobil- ers set out on a course to raise money for children with disabilities. Locally there are 15 children that the ride will sponsor. Snowarama is being sponsored by CORSA (Central Ontario Region Snowmobile Associa- tions), which is made up of five snowmobile clubs. Cartwright Dynos, The Heart of Ontario, Long Sault, Ganaraska and Port Perry Snowmobile Clubs are co-sponsoring the event. The local clubs will be preparing the trails and will be patrolling during the day to aid riders who run into any mechanical troubles. Riders will set out on a 100-km course beginning at 8 a.m. from the Latch- am Centre in Port Perry. Out of town riders from Lindsay, Sunderland and Ganaraska areas can sled to town as part of the course, drop off pledge money and make the loop back home, to save on the number of snowmobiles being trailered to the downtown core. Each participant will receive free meal tickets to be used on refreshments made by the Senior Citi- zens Club of Port Perry. There will also be prizes for riders based on dona- tions of more than $75. Sponsor sheets can be picked up at any local - snowmobile dealerships as well as at the Antrim House, Gord Lewis Mo- tors, Flieler's Petro- Canada and the Port Perry Star. Riders are asked to col- lect pledge money in ad- vance and turn it over the day of the event. The Port Perry Rotary Club will be handling the administra- tion and pledge money the day of Snowarama.
