"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" Family's Christmas effort raises $1,100 for Lions Club projects It was another wonder- ful -- and profitable -- Christmas at the Reid home in Scugog. Judy Reid, who along with mother Kay Hilton and the rest of her family members has built their Line 3 property into a veri- table winter wonderland each holiday season, raised money for the local Lions Club, and was able to make hefty donations to Operation Scugog's food bank this year. Once again this year thousands of visitors flocked to the property, gazing at the numerous lights and moving figures that adorn the sprawling property. When the dis- play went up at the end of November this year, Mrs. Reid and Mrs. Hilton asked for donations of items for the local food bank, and cash for the Li- ons Club's community work. All donations were voluntary. Mrs. Reid said last week that visitors showed their appreciation for the dis- play by being uncommonly generous when making donations. "It was great," she said. "We took two truckloads of food up to the food bank." In addition, she was able to donate $1,100 to the Lions Club. "We were astounded by the re- sponse," she said. some groups even came, like the Sparks from Raglan: "They came out on the coldest night," said Mrs. . Reid. "they brought a can of food each, and their do- nation." The Lions Club, and the community efforts they undertake, are the benéefi- ciaries of the annual effort by Mrs. Reid and Mrs. Hil- ton, said Reid Stainton, a PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 16, 1996 -5 Scugog's singers are sought The Blackstock Womens' Institute believes there is undeveloped musical talent in the Community and wants to do something aboutit. JEFF MITCHELL/PORT PERRY STAR Judy Reid hands over the proceeds of this year's fundraiser -- $1,100 -- to Reid Stainton, a director with the Port Perry Lions Club. The money was raised through donations made by visitors to the annual Christmas light display at Mrs. Reid's home on Line 3, south of Port Perry. She said that as word of the big display gets around, more and more people flock to the proper- ty south of Port Perry to take in the sights and sounds. "There were times when we looked out and it looked like Disneyland in the front yard," she said. "December 23 and 24, we gave away about 1,000 cups of hot chocolate." director with the local club.
