TY "A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 30, 1996 -9 Construction on Common project to start by spring By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star The Canterbury Com- mon development is head- ed for construction this spring, with occupancy ex- pected by late summer or early fall. The development, locat- ed on Simcoe Street, will include a nine-hole golf course in its subdivision, aimed at the active senior. Developers for the pro- ject successfully climbed the remaining hurdles with township council last week. Council agreed to sever- al items including issuing 30 building permits this spring. Council also agreed to the developers' request that sidewalks be constructed on one side of the development only. Council and the devel- opers also came to terms on the location and cost- sharing of the waterfront trail, which will wind through the property to the lake. The location of the maintenance building was also a topic of discus- sions. Its location had caused concern with Kent Estate neighbors who did not want to look at the back of the building. The develop- ers examined all other possible locations for the building, but stated none were satisfactory. Instead the developers redesigned the building and added heavy shrubbery in an act of compromise. Developers, MEF Man- agement, will be launch- ing a sales campaign for the subdivision in the next few weeks.
